Potential to Be Great – Music and Guest Experience Must Improve
The Secret Brunch is a nice place with good food and a comfortable setting, but there are several things that hold it back from being the kind of spot I would regularly recommend.
First, the friendliness and mood of the staff can be very inconsistent. Sometimes you feel genuinely welcome, other times not at all — and that kind of fluctuation doesn’t create the warm and reliable atmosphere you’d expect in a brunch place.
Second, the music. Unfortunately, the playlist is often quite depressing, which takes away from the otherwise pleasant vibe. Brunch is supposed to feel fresh and uplifting. I would suggest switching to more positive, timeless music such as jazz classics, Hotel Costes compilations, or Café del Mar–style lounge. This would immediately create a happier and more relaxed environment for everyone.
Lastly, one major disappointment is that there is no possibility to charge your phone or laptop. Not only are the outlets blocked, but there’s even a sign saying you can’t use them. I understand that the restaurant doesn’t want people to sit all day as digital nomads, but in reality, there is never a shortage of seating space. The place usually has plenty of free tables. Allowing guests (like I usually all other similar spots on Samui) to quickly charge their phone or laptop while ordering food or drinks would make a big difference and show flexibility and care. After all, many people do enjoy reading, working a little, or just staying connected — and they always consume something in return.
With improvements in staff consistency, music, and a more guest-friendly charging policy, The Secret Brunch could easily become a top...
Read moreAn aesthetically pleasing, “chilled and mellow vibe” to the place from the second you walk in. I can see why some people have said they come here to meditate in the mornings, it has that sort of feel to the place. So it terms of that, which I think that is the style they are going for, they have got it spot on. They have drinking water in a glass bottle with glasses on each table, though room temp and I would like this to have been colder, this is a nice little touch.
My partner ordered a smoothie/açaí bowl and it was huge, served in a cold stone bowl, would easily serve 2 if you both have a smaller appetite.
Unfortunately (and this is ignorant of me saying this in Thailand) their English isn’t great. I tried to order the bacon egg and avocado bagel, when it came no egg and even worse the avocados as more rubbery than a primary school easer! Another lady complained the table next to me about hers being “not ripe too”. They did try and fix this to their credit but even when the second attempt came out, it still wasn’t great and really was tasteless.
Coffee, Bagel and Bowl was 500 baht.
A disappointing experience for what was supposed to be a rare treat on a travelers budget and did come away, disappointed.
Would try again in the hope this was just a bad day in...
Read moreTo tell you the truth the most important of any restaurant is the taste of their food, no matter how fancy your decor is. Overall the restaurant is looking great, staff was very present, varieties of menu are well enough, price was alright not too cheap and not too expensive but all came down to the taste. May be only for me food are too bland not enough balance at all, I was order bagel with smoked salmon (not enough cream cheese) and why toasted bagel in the oven again to make them harder, my kid had waffle with coconut, practically no salt in waffle so so flat and almost not cooked well, coconut milk sauce was not good at all (need more sauce and more taste) in my opinion again. My wife had egg Benedict, they use bagel was almost burn and egg was ok but balance between bread& egg and spinach and sauce was really off. Sauce is not enough for that meal so all I'm saying is you will try and see we are agree on this topic. To make customers come back food taste have to be remembered other wise no one...
