Mother Roster Cafe Review Mother Roster is tucked away in Soi San Chao Rong Krueak. The ground floor presents a unique contrast, hosting a salvage yard (Seng Kong) and a shop selling elephant-themed items (we only viewed this from the outside). The café itself is a world away: you walk up a dark wooden staircase to the second floor, which opens into an airy, bright, and cool (air-conditioned) space. Seating is divided into zones: there are rows of hard chairs resembling a waiting area, a cozier soft sofa zone on the right, and a separate room with a large, high communal wooden table. The coffee counter is notably spacious, allowing the barista plenty of room to work. I ordered their signature Dirty drink called "Hidden Shadow" (espresso + hojicha + cold milk). The coffee beans are pre-selected by the café, deemed perfectly suited for this particular drink. The velvety richness and concentration of the cold milk, perfectly topped by the espresso, were superb. However, the Hojicha settled heavily at the bottom and, when mixed, lent a slightly bitter and astringent note to the flavor. I suspect their regular Dirty would be a more enjoyable experience.
Excellent and neatly handmade coffee. Yummy and affordable price. Coffee from...

Read moreFinding Mother Roaster at Talat Noi felt like searching for a speakeasy while there is a small sign at the entrance of the building it is situated in, the vibrant mural and stunning mural of the first floor is enough to distract you and conceal it as another photosphot. But even as you enter the open door you need to go through the curated junkshop mess, through the wooden stairs and up the second floor which practically looks like a real balcony of a real local Thai house (the lounging cats create a more convincing atmosphere). Inside you will find the cafe and if not for the coffee and pastry bar, you would still mistake it as an actual home. From the cafes we tried in Bangkok, this was the most local we can get to and their diverse offering made it hard for me to choose. We ended up with 2 lattes (one with more milk and one with a stronger coffee share) and 1 chocolate drink paired with the best egg tart I had in my life. I had the Dejavu which was strong but surprisingly was not acidic. Their chocolate latte was dark and you can truly taste the bittersweet goodness. While waiting for our drinks we got to learn about the history of Mother Roaster and appreciate how it came to be. It's definitely worth a visit...
