I had a positive experience at this place several years ago and was in Bangkok for a long layover. Decided to revisit and was not disappointed. First off, it is a bit difficult to find in the winding alleys of Talat Noi. Enjoy the quirkiness of the neighborhood, however, as you will be rewarded at the end.
The restaurant itself is on the 8th floor of the RiverView Residence. Coming out onto the 8th floor you will see an expansive covered concrete deck with fans and a variety of seating, including wide and low cushioned couches (my favorite).
The deck is open and has spectacular views of the River and Bangkok in general. All in all fantastic atmosphere.
The menu is fairly varied but I have only had a couple of items, which are so good as to make me keep getting them every time. I'll start with the Green Curry, which is the first dish I had when I originally came here. It is incredibly tasty and comes with an order of Roti bread. Both are perhaps the best I've ever had.
This time I also had some Chicken Karaage which was also exceptional. I've never had anything here I didn't really like. Everything I've had has been really good.
My first time here I had an excellent Iced Tea with a little fruit juice. It appears they no long have that so I had Iced Tea with some lemonade. It was good, but not as refreshing as what they used to have. Still good though.
I also had some fresh Passion Fruit juice which was delicious. The setting is just so zen and relaxing and I was there at a very quiet time, between lunch and dinner so there were very few people in the restaurant. I relaxed on the wide low sofa and, in truth, dozed off for a little bit in the sweltering Bangkok humidity.
The staff is so nice, they left me to my nap. I woke and had another Soda before heading out to get a coffee at Hong Sieng Kong.
I love this restaurant and it remains one of my favorite places in Bangkok. Please note there is no air conditioning except for the fans, which I like but might be...
Read moreStunned by the number of good reviews.
We arrived at 4pm, just before sunset hours. The rooftop was closed for sitting but we went up anyway to look. The reason it was closed? Hadn't bothered to clean it from whenever the last service was, despite numerous staff. Took an age to get a menu, eventually ordered curry (250 baht), French fries and a small glass of beer (140). French fries never arrived. Curry arrived and it was dreadful. No flavour, cold, pork (lots of it) was ridiculously fatty/chewy.
We wanted to actually watch the sunset so attempted to order a second beer. Waiter had absolutely no clue what I was asking. This is a touristic place, bear in mind. Not a word of English.
Finally, about 5.30, they decided to start carrying out renovations, in the middle of service. Extremely loud drilling, ladders, wires everywhere, right in the middle of prime service hours so waiters were having to step over and around an obstacle course. Other patrons were just laughing at how ridiculous it was.
Overall, terrible, slow service, dreadful food, and massively over-priced. The redemption is the stunning views, but that, of course, is nothing to do with...
Read moreJust got back to hotel from an excellent dinner at this restaurant and I have to make this review right away. I was just randomly ran into this restaurant during my trip visiting Song Wat area, however, the experience here is something above my expectation.
The view was excellent from rooftop 8th floor over the Chao Phraya river. High enough to get away from the noisy city but still perfectly closed to enjoy the freshness from the river. Staffs are all very friendly, even when they got so many customers, yet still carefully take care of my table well.
Last but not least, the food that I ordered were excellent, must say it’s was the best that I have ever had during my stay in Thailand this time. I have ordered a simple meal with “marinara spaghetti” and a cute banana split. The seafood in my spaghetti was very fresh, and you can tell the sauce was homemade since the taste is so unique and different.
Having dinner while watching sunset by the Chao Phraya river is really meaning a lot to me, it can recharged me from a hustle trip and a sunny day.
I will definitely comeback again before...
