People here don’t listen.
Nice ambiance. Good to catch the golden hour here for photo opportunities.
Unfortunately, for credit card payments, their QR scan order system does not work at all with my bank approval app on an iPhone.
I ordered normally, and had to approve my payment by approving it via the bank app. After clicking approval on the bank app, the QR scan order page disappeared.
Fretting that payment has gone through after clicking “approve” but suspecting that the order may have been lost in translation… I asked a waiter to check and confirm my order in the system. It was busy, and said waiter brushed me off by telling me that my order did go through (without checking) and that I need to be patient as there are many orders.
Almost an hour later and people who came after me have left the place, I requested another waiter to check. They got me the manager or owner (I’ll call him “X”), I’m not sure. But he is Caucasian and if he’s reading this, he should know exactly who I am. He checked the system and said nothing went through. I tried telling him my problem, but he didn’t seem interested in listening. Anyway, after I was sure my credit card payment is not in their system, he told me to reorder.
And I did. The same thing happened with the whole QR scan and bank app issue. So I tried a third time.
After this, I requested another waiter to check my order again. Before I could get his feedback, X came over and basically accused me of trying to get a free seat at their so-called “prime” spot for free. He then threatened me to order and pay cash or leave immediately - rudely & loudly.
I was saving the cash for something else as I informed him earlier, but seeing the situation, I decided to order by cash. No problem with the system this time.
Cocktail came, and they requested payment with it. Drink was not watered down, so it’s good. I waited for my main dish and cracker snack to arrive. Once I got the full order, I left without touching the food and snack. I walked over to X and told him I left the food for him. I hope he enjoyed it, or at least, has the heart to give it to anyone of the many homeless people on the streets outside.
I can’t review the food as I didn’t try what I ordered.
The whole process took about 1.5 hours of waiting. I hope people from Baan Rim Naam reads better than they listen to their customers.
I walked over, instead, to CHARMKRUNG on the 6th floor to a building nearby for a much better experience and dinner with the superb, friendly, professional and non-arrogant staffs. No comparison on the food as it’s...
Read moreTalat Noi, fast becoming one of those easily accessible spots growing in popularity among foreign visitors. I have done several posts before on the various little obscure cafes and eateries in this area. And recently, I have just visited Baan Rim Naam. It’s the only other river fronting restaurant I stumbled upon while I explored the alleyways tainted with vibrant street art. As soon as it opened at, visitors started to stream in taking on the low sofa seating area under limited shades of the few trees. I choose to sit under the roof… . which was equally hot…. It was end March, beginning April. Fireball sun very fierce. Anyways, the place is ornamented with all sorts of antiquities giving that nostalgic vibe for those of us who are abouts of a half century old or more. We had lunch, some mates from overseas. The wait was rather long, but fortunately there was an endless flow of cold water we could gulp down self-served from a dispenser. The food arrived, all beautifully arranged with a banana leaf cone covering the rice. Beautiful food… price must match beautiful effort. So, don’t expect street side prices here. Friend had the iconic Spicy Thai Basil Minced Pork on Rice with Egg (Kapow Moo Sup Lad Khao). I can tell the food here is very farang friendly. You don’t have to worry about an upset stomach. The mince pork is pale friendly white with only a little chili more of like for deco. However, the dish I ordered was overwhelmingly yummy for me. It is also another iconic dish, Minced Pork Omelet (Kai Jiao Moo Sup Lad Khao) on rice. I know it sounds mundane but really it was good, and this is a very typical lunch or dinner dish with locals. The egg was so fluffy and full of ingredients. The portion was so generously big it felt like they squeezed all the eggs out of the chicken. And so, there we were, watching the tugboats along the busy river. A hot afternoon lunch as tourist in the tourist...
Read moreWe came here on recommendation because of the location. In my opinion the place is quietly tucked away down some funky alleyways that are worth exploring. The restaurant is very unique and quirky with plenty of candles, old artifacts and lots of traditional floor seating. It's also right on the river so the location is excellent! However, I thought the food element let's this place down. Firstly, you have to order via a QR code, which we found clunky and difficult. I would implore that owners refer back to traditional menus that give customers a real feel of what they have to offer. Secondly, the prices are extortionate. To give an example, 280THB for a pressed rice bowl portion of chicken fried rice is just plain robbery! The food was distinctly ordinary too, which made the high prices even more difficult to stomach! The highlight of the evening though, was when I asked for a coke, the answer came back as "we only have coke's if you order a rum and coke" 😂. To conclude, I would come back, but only for drink near the river - as long as it wasn't...
