FOLD Sourdough — Restaurant in Talat Nuea

We went there and looked at the menu at the counter, staff informed us to sit at the table to look at the menu. We did as told, and then went to the Cashier to order a takeaway sandwich and 2 coffees to go. After sitting and waiting some time we were not sure if we would get our coffee so we went to tell them we didn't receive our coffee. We got a response that they thought we wanted everything for takeaway, but they did not ask us, saw that we were sitting and waiting for the food. It is not really their fault but also not ours as well, as we have been in other cafes and they would either ask us if we would like the coffee first or to go. Regardless there was no acknowledgment, just they said they thought we wanted everything to go.

Later they brought us the items. The staff that brought us the food, did not say a single thank you, no smile, only staring and nodding. When we left also there was nothing, no thank you, no goodbye as you would have in a lot of cafes.(keep in mind it was not a huge place) in Phuket where staff are usually friendly, even smaller cafes than this, and bigger ones that are busy.

90% of the coffees we have in Phuket, the milk was full to the top of the cup here it is less, which is okay but combined with the unfriendly service it doesn't feel good to come back even though their bread is good. No matter how busy one is, I think service is an important part of any cafe, bakery or restaurant, just my opinion anyway.

I wanted to try this place many times as I saw it on Google and Grab because I love bread and sourdough, and I want to like this place very much but it was a bit disappointing and not even because of their bread and coffee,...

We've been ordering breakfast from Fold regularly, so today we decided to visit the place itself.

Let’s start with the good stuff: their signature iced coffee is really tasty – highly recommended. The bread here is top-notch, and that alone makes the visit worthwhile. Their sandwiches, made with this incredible bread, are definitely their strong suit.

However, not everything impressed us. The original Caesar salad comes only with bacon – no chicken, which is quite odd. Luckily, you can add chicken as an extra, which I did, but a classic Caesar usually includes it by default. Also, the salad lacked a proper Caesar dressing, making it underwhelming. The shrimp cream soup had a slightly bitter taste, almost as if it contained powdered ingredients, so we wouldn’t order it again.

Overall, we give Fold a well-deserved 5, as they consistently deliver great breakfast in takeout. But if you're visiting, stick to coffee and sandwiches – those are their real...
