Steve who is called "Mr Steve" in all posters/communication in the place, has a very nice restaurant.
It should also be reachable via boat, I think pier 15, but I failed in doing so, so in the end, I used a motorbike taxi. Very nice , riverside view.
You need to take off your shoes so put some fresh socks on.😅 And yes there are slippers near the lavatory, you don't have to go on socks..😉
Not allowed entry if you are unvaccinated which I do not agree with, but it was a 20 minute motorbike taxi ride from Sukhumvit, so I accepted it. You get also some kind of stupid vaccin sticker on your clothes attached.
The menu is available via a long PDF, not so user friendly in my opinion. But that's my digital experience addiction. At least a responsive webpage would have been better with some sort of anchor links and an add to cart that shows a summary to the waiter. (Or directly send over)
The food list in the PDF is really, really long and you get tired of zooming in and out.
They have a lot of special Thai food. Also they cook very healthy and i think gluten free (see picture)
The story of Steve, euh Mr Steve, is also explained and it also inspired me. Very nice👍. He setup a lot of things. Impressive.
I was during lunch and then views are great. But I think in sunset it must be very special.
If you are in Bangkok this is a special restaurant to try.
Take Google Maps with you. It is inside a temple complex and then via a narrow alley. Google Maps makes it slightly...
Read moreOne of my fav hidden gem in the city by the river. The joy of going to Steve Cafe is you first take the boat ride cruising along the river almost like a sight seeing boat (chaophaya express) to Dhevet pier. Be worn tho, taking the boat can be tricky as sometimes the long boat with a roof over which the locals take to go around is not running and only the tourist type open roof boat is, it doesnt stop at Dhevet pier. Which happens to us one time and we had to then take a GRAB to the restaurant. Overall took us close to an hour and almost missing our reservation time. And I got to say, prior to everything that happen, I call a day before to change my reservation to a later day and also requested table next to the river and I called again half an hour before my reservation time to let them know we are running late. The restaurant was patient, kind and accommodating. I can hear that they were not annoyed at all through the phone. After we arrived they welcome us warmly and got us seated right away at our reserved table. That is some gold standard service !!
This place is catered more to locals or visitors that were recommended by word of mouth. Great home cook food and relaxing atmosphere over the water.
Do call ahead to book a table to avoid being turn away due...
Read moreMotivated by many positive reviews, we decided to sample the cuisine.
We observed a dedicated owner diligently overseeing operations, ensuring everything ran smoothly.
Remarkably, every dish delivered a high standard—devoid of MSG, coupled with excellent service and a pleasant ambiance. Even straightforward dishes like chicken Kua Kai and stir-fried chicken rice noodles were delightful. The salt and pepper soft shell crab, meeting my preference for non-oily and less salty, exceeded expectations. The pork breast fried salt and pepper proved to be a pleasant surprise. The Steve fried rice showcased a tasteful fusion of East and West, enhanced by the addition of mini garlic, elevating the flavors. The Ton Sago dessert, featuring a special sago powder, left a positive impression, though it may be a touch sweet for those unaccustomed to the typically sweeter side of Thai desserts. While Pad Thai wasn't to my liking, my significant other appreciated it, noting its high standard.
The freshly served coconut drink added a refreshing touch. It's evident that the owner and chef put careful thought into every detail of the dining experience.
Crucially, considering the quality, the pricing is fair. We will unquestionably return with...
