Went here for dinner. Nice location (restaurant!), nice food choices - different local and organic steaks (mainly beef and pork), extraordinary Pad Krapao choices and starters. They also have Thai wine and special drinks choices. We ordered dry aged Picanha and Pad Krapao with Thai Wagyu, as well as pork cheeks.

First of all: The dry aged Picanha (450 Baht) was great. The quality of the meat was super. It was grilled as ordered and had a nice crust. Also the side dishes of the meat were good - although in my opinion some carbs are missing. But you can order rice separately - if you think this fits. One drawback: The grilled garlic was only slightly grilled. I expected a very smooth texture and due to intensive cooking experience a more deep flavor. This wasn’t the case.

Pork cheek (140 Baht) was good - for me a little too done. The idea to cook Pad Krapao (265 Baht) with scrambled egg and egg yolk is great! The dish itself could be a little more soggy, but otherwise good. Spice level three was ok for us. Thai alcohol set was nice - two different spirits with little dessert and side „water“ (flavored) - for 150. Not the best spirit, but the experience was good. One coke for 40 Baht. All in, 1230 with service charge (10 %) and tax (7 %).

Overall, I am actually a little disappointed, as the rating of this restaurant is quite high. And I think there is a reason: They offer a free drink, if you rate them. We did - showed the review (with originally 4 stars) and nothing happened. Obviously, you only get a drink, if you give five stars. And five stars are not deserved for this. For five stars they have to improve food preparation and service attitude - and I don’t give five stars just to get something for free. Because of this dishonest behavior - and the overall impression - I reduce the rating to three stars.

After our review I had the impression, that they were not as friendly as at the beginning. And I think they spoke about us - and not in a friendly way.

Good to know: The restaurant has no own toilet. You have to leave the room, cross a dark, alive and dead cockroach crowded tunnel to get to a public toilet…. No toilet paper and no soap or anything to wash your hands - not even in the restaurant. This is all you need to know. Not appropriate for a restaurant with this „quality“ and price. Maybe the restaurant should think about a proper solution for this.

Overall: I don’t know, if recommendable. I wouldn’t go twice. And that’s a pity, because they...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tan Kun (ท่านขุน) – U Center, Chulalongkorn

📍 198 Soi Chulalongkorn 42, Wang Mai, Pathum Wan, Bangkok 10330 🕰️ Lunch & Dinner Service

Tan Kun is truly a hidden gem for premium Thai beef lovers. Nestled in the lively U Center community near Chulalongkorn University, this restaurant delivers both the art of fire-grilled beef and authentic Thai flavors in an inviting, rustic atmosphere.

🥩 The Beef Experience

Their signature grilled beef platter is mind-blowing — juicy, smoky, and cooked perfectly medium rare. Served with an egg yolk dip, chunky sea salt, grilled garlic, cherry tomatoes, and pineapple. Every bite is rich, umami-packed, and layered with texture.

Also worth mentioning: the Thai-style grilled beef cube platter with four dipping sauces (green chili, soy, wasabi, egg yolk) is a must-try for sauce lovers!

🥬 Perfect Pairings

Stir-fried morning glory was fragrant and crisp — the kind of side dish that makes the meat even more satisfying.

Cabbage steak topped with Thai-style tomato & chili sauce added a nice tangy balance.

Garlic fried rice was rich, nutty, and a great carb base for the proteins.

🍮 Sweet Ending

Don’t skip the coconut pudding — light, chilled, and a refreshing way to wrap up a hearty meal.

📖 Storytelling Menu & Concept

Loved the creative branding and backstory. The menu highlights their focus on local, fresh, and delicious ingredients. Everything is prepared with fire, smoke, and passion — just like...

Tan Kun Steakhouse: A Hidden Gem Serving Thailand’s Finest Steaks

Tucked away in a charming rural corner of Bangkok, Tan Kun Steakhouse is a must-visit destination for anyone craving an unforgettable dining experience. This unassuming gem delivers what I can confidently call the best steak in Thailand. From the moment we arrived, I was blown away by the warm ambiance, exceptional service, and, of course, the mouthwatering food.

The star of the show is undoubtedly the steak—perfectly cooked, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Each bite was a testament to the quality of their ingredients and the skill of their chefs. Whether you’re a fan of ribeye, sirloin, or filet mignon, Tan Kun elevates every cut to perfection. The sides were equally delightful, complementing the main course without stealing the spotlight.

What truly sets Tan Kun apart is their outstanding service. The staff was attentive, friendly, and genuinely passionate about ensuring we had a fantastic experience. To top it all off, they surprised us with a complimentary dessert—a decadent treat that was the perfect ending to an already flawless meal.

Tan Kun Steakhouse is a rare find, blending world-class cuisine with the charm of rural Bangkok. If you’re anywhere near the area (or even if you’re not), make the trip. It’s an absolute must for steak lovers and anyone seeking an extraordinary dining experience. I can’t...
