When you think of Bangkok, you picture endless shopping, vibrant street food, and the buzz of city life. But finding a hotel that captures the city’s energy while still offering comfort and warmth can be tricky. During our recent stay, we found exactly that at Mandarin Bangkok Hotel—a perfect blend of classic modern ambience, strategic location, and genuine Thai hospitality.
Situated right in the heart of Bangkok, Mandarin Bangkok Hotel gave us easy access to everything we wanted to experience. Just a short stroll away is the bustling Pratunam Market, where we could shop to our heart’s content. For foodies, the lively Banthat Thong Road and the iconic Jeh O Chula are nearby, offering some of the city’s most famous local eats. And when we needed a break from the hustle and bustle, Lumphini Park was close by—a refreshing green escape in the middle of the city.
From the moment we arrived, the staff at Mandarin Bangkok Hotel made us feel welcome with their warm smiles and helpful attitude. That friendliness carried through our entire stay, making us feel both cared for and at home.
The hotel itself has everything you need for a comfortable stay. There’s a well-equipped gym for fitness lovers, a spa for ultimate relaxation, and a swimming pool that’s perfect for unwinding after a day out in Bangkok. Having a mini bar in the room was also a nice touch when we just wanted to relax indoors.
Our room was spacious, cozy, and thoughtfully designed, with a touch of classic-meets-modern style. It came with complete amenities, soft bedding, and a bathroom stocked with essentials. The highlight was definitely the large window overlooking Bangkok’s skyline—a view that was equally mesmerizing during the day and at night.
What truly stood out about Mandarin Bangkok Hotel was how it combined style, comfort, and convenience all in one. With its strategic location, friendly staff, and well-rounded facilities, it was the perfect base for our Bangkok adventure.
Whether you’re visiting for shopping, food, or sightseeing, Mandarin Bangkok Hotel is a place we’d recommend without hesitation. It’s more than just a stay—it’s an experience that makes Bangkok even more...
Read moreIt is a passable business stay for two nights if one doesn't quibble over quality. Its location looked deceptively convenient but there was no direct way to get to it from Sam Yan MRT station. It's a hassle to go through Mitrtown mall and cross two roads to get to the hotel. (A different matter if you use cabs or hired rides.) If your business involves visiting Chulalongkorn University or its vicinity, it's worth it. Otherwise, I suggest looking elsewhere if you prefer to be closer to the shopping areas. There is no easy way via the MRT or BTS.
The breakfast spread was passable but nothing special to shout about. The hotel staff was courteous, but couldn't be more helpful with my queries about food choices in the vicinity or helped me for an invoice on the hotel stay (granted that I already paid through an online travel agent - I needed the invoice as a backup for my business stay reimbursement). Language (with English) was clearly an issue.
The room needs an update to the 21st century. The decor fits that of a late 1980s-early 1990s apartment. The truly unconscionable thing was that the king size bed was actually two single beds lined side by side, with a gap in between. No way the guest can sleep in the middle or make full use of the king size bed. I thought someone was joking when I saw the Google review before booking the room, but it turned out to be true. Advice - Never ask for king size bed. The wifi network was erratic. Either I wasn't logged onto the network automatically when I was back in the room, or I was connected to the wifi but there was no Internet. Refreshing the connection didn't work. The TV was also erratic. I was watching BBC and a few other foreign channels and within minutes I was brought back to the home page. It happened a few times and I stopped watching TV at all. One saving grace was the toilet has the automated bidet, like the Japanese bathrooms. That was delightful.
Post-review feedback: I appreciate Ms Sirikul Kraiboon taking time to give a detailed and thoughtful reply to my review. In view of that, I have upped my review of Mandarin Hotel's customer service from three to four...
Read moreI chose this hotel because of the many good reviews and decided to overlook the few low-rated ones, thinking that experiences are subjective. Unfortunately, in this case, the negative reviews were closer to our reality.
Right from check-in, the experience was off. The receptionist who assisted us was noticeably rude and condescending. Throughout our stay, most of the front desk staff didn’t bother to smile or even offer a simple greeting. It felt cold and unwelcoming every time we passed by.
The same went for the breakfast staff. Each morning, we’d walk in with no acknowledgment, just a glance at what we were wearing, a quick request for our room or keycard number, and then they’d go back to chatting among themselves. There was no warmth or hospitality.
The room looked clean at first glance, but it had a strong, musty, old smell that lingered the entire time. The same unpleasant scent filled the hallways and elevators, though oddly, the lobby smelled really good. That contrast just highlighted the lack of upkeep in the rest of the hotel.
Another downside was the poor soundproofing. We could hear everything from hallway noise and neighboring rooms to footsteps or dragging furniture above us. It was hard to get proper rest because of it.
The breakfast buffet was underwhelming. Most of the items were the same every day, with only a few minor changes that didn’t help much. The food was mostly bland and limited to chicken or pork. There were no exciting or quality options, just repetitive and uninspired meals.
That said, a few staff members truly stood out. The lovely lady who cleaned our room daily was incredibly kind, warm, and hardworking…we appreciated her so much. We’re also grateful to the doormen who helped with our luggage and greeted us at the entrance with smiles.
The hotel does have a good location, being close to a mall and some interesting spots to visit, which is one of the few highlights.
We genuinely hope the hotel takes this feedback to heart. It has potential, but there’s a lot of room for improvement especially in staff attitude, hospitality, and overall...
