On July 17th 2023 I made a reservation for 3 people at The Cliff, new to Tunis I have heard lots of positive feedback about the restaurant and was eager to try it.
Like any foodie, I looked up the menu on the website and noticed that there is 2 menus, le bistro and the restaurant.
I arrive with my invitees, at 9:00 PM from Canada, I ask for the menu, I get the drinks menu, we order 3 Amaretto Sour which were great, a bottle of wine, then to my surprise only the restaurant menu was offered with the expensive restricted items, I ask the waiter for the other menu where I can order Sushi and pizza and he says " I will do you a favour, bring you the menu, but the sushi can only be an entree and you are OBLIGED to order from the menu" we ask again and he confirms, meanwhile a table arrives after us sit next to us, orders a pizza, and almost every table around us had pizza and other dishes on it. Of course we looked, and spoke in non Tunisian dialect.
Not wanting to appear as impolite infront of my business dinner invitees, I did not argue much with the waiter, just asked for a second confirmation.
To be honest the service was okay, I ask for the bill I pay 310 dinars plus + 20 dinar as tips and I leave the place in peace.
Now, my questions are the following:
1- Why the waiter forbade us from ordering items from the other menu?
2- Why tables around us were offered food from the second menu and not us?
3- Why the staff was trying to upsell us by telling us the other menu is not available?
Before posting here, I sent an email to the management with no response, giving the management a chance to explain, now believing that if no one stands up to unjustice and scam people will continue to suffer, next I will be contacting the ministry of tourism since the establishment is recognized as tourists restaurant and ask for clarifications.

Overall: The Cliff restaurant sustained it's excellent food and customer service experience.
After three months of our last visit to The Cliff restaurant, located in the Sidi Bou Said neighborhood, we came back to Tunis and decided to make a reservations with a group of professionals coming from different parts of Europe and Africa. Somehow I was initially in contact with Ms. Cyrine, restaurant management. So, I basically coordinated everything with Ms. Cyrine via text. She was able to satisfy 200% our request to include having assigned one of the three waiters we like. Upon arrival to the restaurant everything was as planned. Mr. Khaled was our assigned waiter, the table was perfectly set, and the overall ambience was excellent.
Once again The Cliff restaurant sustained their outstanding service and great food. All parties were extremely happy with the service and the food. Our order included but was not limited to octopus salad, prawns, calamari, pasta, fish, and more - super delicious!
The restaurant and toilets were cleaned and well organized. There was a security person at the door. All the staff was very nice and professional.
Mr. Khaled's customer service was excellent and very professional. One can tell he is very experienced. He has a friendly & respectful demeanor. Excellent job Mr. Khaled!
I am grateful to Ms. Cyrine. Thanks to her we had a very memorable dinner. Everything was exceptional. I booked a table for 4 people to celebrate Mother’s day with my sister, mother and grandmother. I called around 9am, I emphasised several times on wanting a table with a sea view. They reassured us saying it’s done, a nice table for 4 with a nice view is reserved for us. We arrive on site, I speak to a bookings responsible (who had no manners, no professionalism and none of customer service minimal skills) for him to direct us to our table. Surprise!! the couple tables available with a view that were aligned with what I required by phone, as the guy said, were already booked by someone on site (highly doubt it). He asks us to wait for 10 minutes, we do wait, then call us to sit in a table that has nothing to do with what I booked (He should’ve invited us to sit in the kitchen at this point). OBVIOUSLY, we left. We won’t spend not a penny nor a minute in this place. A non guest oriented, arrogant, mannerless workforce. Lousy place with chaos all over it.
