I bought a number of food items from the gourmet shop adjacent to the restaurant. Several of them (including fresh cheese) were expired, and at least one of them was heavily overpriced.
At the check out I did not receive a breakdown of the products and prices but was handed a simple credit card receipt just displaying the sum total. I did not challenge the salesperson right there because I do not speak enough Turkish, so I left shocked and wondering what had happened.
When I went back to the shop with my Turkish partner to discuss the issue, the salesperson tried to change the label with the expiry date on the product (smoked cheese) before our very eyes and handed them back to us with the new label. Shocked, my partner had to insist he give us another, non-expired product. When we inquired about the respective prices of the products we found out that I had been sold a glass of 100g of Red Salmon Caviar for the price of 270 TL.
After this second visit, we looked at remaining products at home and found that the expiration label on the Red Salmon Caviar had also been tampered with by sticking a new expiry date on top of the original expiry date (in this case: 2017) to make it look fresh. In summary, I had bought several expired products, at least one of them at roughly 5 times its market price.
The same day, we returned another time to the shop and the salesperson agreed to take the expired product and pay us the money back.
After this experience, we are not likely ever to return to this shop. Buying products from here carries a potential health hazard, and the sales personnel cannot be trusted to treat...
Read moreExcellent Italian restaurant. We were a family of 9 ordering Italian food for lunch. Ate everything from soup of the day (cold yougurt soup), Margherita Pizza, Salads (mixed and Burrata Avocado), Pasta (Fittuccinie and Lasagna), Risotto (fungi) and main (tenderloin and Milanese schnitzel). All options were excellent. We finished with Ice cream (very good) and St. Sebastian Cheese Cake (the only average choice) with Cortado, Cafe Latte, Espresso and tea. The meal was a fantastic success. Service was impeccable. The atmosphere was perfect (amazing view of the hustle and bustle of Nışantaşı). The only thing regarding the atmosphere is that some decore items are American in nature instead of European (let alone Italian). With pictures of New Orleans Mardi Gras causing confusion for the historically and critically inclined amongst us. So if they get their theme correct, this will be ideal, otherwise all pieces on display are pretty on their own merit, and don't deserve that I reduce a point of the atmosphere ranking. Unless I am a stickler, which I am not. So there you have it. In-A-Nutshell: an excellent Italian...
Read moreMilano Gourmet, located just around the corner from Amerikan Hastanesi, is an elegant and comfortable dining experience that truly transports you straight to Italy. The restaurant features an Italian charcuterie in the basement, which adds a unique element to the dining experience.
The menu is primarily Italian with an adequate Turkish wine list, giving customers the opportunity to pair their meal with a deliciously curated selection of wines. However, while the food and wine are satisfying, it may come at a steep price for the average Turkish earner. In fact, enjoying a pasta lunch with wine at Milano Gourmet may set you back half your monthly salary.
Regardless, Milano Gourmet is the perfect place to go for a quick bite or an innocent first date. The food is quick and delicious, and the ambiance sets the tone for a romantic evening.
Overall, while it may be a bit heavy on the wallet, Milano Gourmet is an excellent choice for anyone looking for an authentic Italian experience...
