Best pizza I've had in Turkey so far!
Came here by accident, but what a lucky accident it was — we meant to go to a nearby restaurant that is now closed, and opened Google Maps to find another place to eat.
The crust is thin, fluffy, crispy and delightful; the tomato sauce is perfect and all ingredients are clearly high quality. We are there twice during our trip: first time, we had a Mediterranea (my favourite) and a Pesto (close second), and on the second visit for my birthday, we decided for a 4 Formaggio (good but a bit bland compared to the flavour explosion of the others) and a plate of tortellini. I was scared of ordering a pasta dish as they're usually very underwhelming and it was a special day, but I trusted the manager's recommendation and went with it. No regrets! Creamy, warm and soft, like a hug in a plate, very delicate flavours.
The only thing that detracted from my experience was that the manager — or so I assume by his clothes and demeanour — upon learning it was my birthday, said he'd send a tiramisu with a candle to my table at the end of our meal but that didn't happen, and when I asked for it, the staff (with limited English, while the manager wasn't anywhere to be found) sent it after we had already left the table etc etc and I was charged for it when I asked for the bill. I entered the establishment fully ready to pay for my dessert, of course, but it was a let down when I paid for it after it was implied to be a courtesy on the house. Not a major issue by any measures but unfortunately a bit of a dampener on the mood.
Speaking of which, the tiramisu was good but in my opinion unremarkable — I've had much better, and perhaps I should have gone with a panna cotta instead. The decoration is lovely and thoughtful, feels like a genuine eatery in some corner of Italy, and the musical selection is delightful as well! Bathrooms are clean, well-lit and decorated, and the seating area has mood lighting as well as many little details around to discover with your eyes, very cosy!
Plenty of vegetarian options, which was a delight for me and a rarity. I'll definitely be back when I'm in...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Antique Pizzeria in Istanbul, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. This gem of a restaurant truly brings a slice of Italy to the heart of the city.
The pizza at Antique Pizzeria is nothing short of authentic. Each bite transported me straight to Italy with its perfect crust, flavorful tomato sauce, and fresh, high-quality toppings.
The pasta, too, was a delight. Cooked to al dente perfection, the sauces were rich and savory, complementing the pasta beautifully. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic spaghetti or a more adventurous dish, you won’t be disappointed.
To top it all off, the wine selection is impressive. I opted for a dry rosé, which paired exquisitely with both the pizza and the pasta, enhancing the overall dining experience.
The staff at Antique Pizzeria are professional, attentive, and helpful.
Overall, I give Antique Pizzeria a resounding 5 out of 5 stars. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, I highly recommend this restaurant for an authentic Italian dining experience...
Read moreThis restaurant is located off of Istiklal and close to the main bar street. To our amaze the restaurant was much bigger than we anticipated, and very nicely decorated, a super cute place. The service was a bit distracted for having such few covers, but the food came very fast so no complains. But I do expect more from the service when they charge you a 10% service fee (which is not normal to charge in turkey by the way). The pizza was okay. I’d give it a 3.5/5 for the price. It was a good size for a single person but they definitely cut a lot of corners with their choice of ingredients (especially ingredient quality) and there was a few aspects to the pizza that were pretty sloppy. I did appreciate that they made it in a wood fire oven though. All in all this place is fine for a normal bite to eat. Nothing mind blowing, but not bad. But don’t walk through that door with any Italian...
