Mephisto Bookstore & Cafe - Beyoglu — Local services in Beyoğlu

Definitely a must-stop and see bookstore on Istiklal Caddesi. Quite big and has a café. Prices are reasonable. But definitely check the nearby competition and ask if they’ll work with you (in certain cases price match is possible) (better if you speak Turkish). Very many books, various topics, a few English books to choose from. Lots of great options in Turkish. Great record selection.

That’s why I gave it 3 : The service is okay: I was looking for a rare book that was a bit more expensive 1800 trl , and once they found a similar one but a cheaper version they went into their date base and did some fudging so the book came out to the same price as a more expensive version…also, it was their last one and was NOT in a new/ perfect condition. Not only the price went up, they didn’t offer a small discount due to its condition (which is usually a common practice at any bookstore that sells brand new books but ends up having a worn out copy). This shows the level of customer service. Because I had the flight next day and was unable to buy the book from a different store I had to go with it. This store will definitely surprise you. It has music, mostly of Turkish origin but all genres. It has books, a wide range of topics and some international original language releases. It has anything that is related to writing, drawing and painting, and a lot of gift items for the youngest and all the way up to the oldest. This place is still open late at night and every day. When I’m visiting Istanbul, Mephisto is one of my to go places. I love spending time here and discovering new books, stationery stuff. I have been there many times and after finishing my time at the bookstore then I go to the cafe part.
