Read moreWe had dinner and ordered grilled chicken skewers and grilled chicken wings. One dish was meant to come with bulgur, the other with fries. We also ordered a salad, one Fanta and one Coke Zero.
What surprised us was how empty the restaurant was when we arrived. Especially considering that the place is highly rated and has even been featured on Turkish television. We expected more atmosphere and maybe a bit more care given its reputation.
At the beginning we were served a glass of water from an already opened one-liter bottle, poured into glasses without us asking for it. I have seen this before in other restaurants in Istanbul so I did not think too much of it. Then our salad arrived, along with bread and a dip. Since this is often included in many places I assumed it was complimentary.
When the main dishes came, the fries had been replaced with bulgur. The explanation was that they had run out of potatoes. This was around 7 pm, which seemed surprisingly early to be out of such a basic item. The chicken skewer portion was quite small in my opinion, though the wings were more generous. The bulgur unfortunately was cold and not very enjoyable, but we still ate.
When the bill came it was noticeably higher than expected. Items we had not ordered directly such as the water, the bread and the dip were all listed and charged. Additionally a service charge had already been added to the total.
While the food itself was decent overall, the way the extras were handled and charged left a negative impression. I believe it is important to be clear about what is included and what will be charged separately. Based on this experience I would personally choose another...
Read moreThis is a sister restaurant of a place located in Sirkeci (Hoca pasa). Both places offer great quality food. Here I had outstanding Kebab with pistachio. Meat was tender, juicy and cooked to perfection. Buryan soup (meat soup) was tasty but initially extremely hot, as it should be served. Urfa lahmacun (thin minced meat pizza) was one of the best I’ve ever had. Also they served two types of bread, one with the soup and a along with the main dish a pita style bread, which was incredible. Centrally located very close to Galata Port. Great interior, cozy and extremely friendly & attentive...
