Namlı Gurme: The Pinnacle of Turkish Breakfast in Istanbul Namlı Gurme is, without a doubt, the quintessential Turkish breakfast experience. For me, it defines what a true Turkish breakfast should be. While the price might be slightly above average, the overall experience is well worth it. The quality of the food, the inviting atmosphere, and the beautifully presented displays are exceptional. The sheer variety of breakfast options at Namlı Gurme is astonishing. From traditional cheeses and olives to freshly baked breads and savory pastries, there's something to delight every palate. It's no wonder the place is always bustling, from morning until late afternoon. What's truly remarkable is that breakfast isn't confined to the morning hours here. People come at all times of the day, even as late as 5 or 6 PM, to savor the delicious breakfast offerings. If you want to immerse yourself in the authentic Turkish breakfast culture, Namlı Gurme is the place to be. The neighborhood itself is charming, and Namlı Gurme has been a beloved institution long before the development of Galataport. Even then, it drew crowds of tourists seeking an authentic breakfast experience. Now, with the added attraction of Galataport, its value is even more pronounced. While the neighborhood offers other breakfast choices, Namlı Gurme stands out as the best, not just in the area, but in Istanbul. The outstanding quality and the unique experience it provides make it a must-visit. I wholeheartedly recommend Namlı Gurme to anyone seeking an unforgettable Turkish breakfast. You won't be...
Read moreI’m a big fan of Namli’s from my time in Bahrain, so I wanted to try out the original establishment in Kadakoy! We went for tea and desert. We ordered the San Sebastián cake and Turkish Tea. I am torn on this review for the following reason. We were originally told by a waiter we must order inside. After attempting to order at the deli counter, we were told we must order at the table. After returning to our table, an older waiter assisted us. While he wasn’t overtly rude, he didn’t have patience for non-Turkish speakers. We almost got up and walked away. (I kept telling him “I want New York Cheesecake” and he would reply “Lemon Cheesecake!”) After this impasse, a younger female server came to the rescue and took our order without difficulty. (The issue was Namli’s ran out of New York Cheesecake and was left only with Lemon. Nothing on the menu reflected the New York Cheesecake was sold out.)
The San Sebastián cake was a solid substitute for New York Cheesecake. It was tasty and not too expensive (about 10 Euros a slice) for this part of town.
The young female server deserves 5 stars for her positive attitude, smile, and customer service skills. The older gentleman definitely brings the service score down significantly as we were so close to walking out the door.
This store offers significantly more products than what you can find at Namli’s in Bahrain. It is definitely worth a visit. We didn’t try any main courses so I can’t speak to the food quality other than dessert and Turkish tea (which was...
Read moreBe weary. I came here twice. The first time I paid, it ended up being really expensive, but the bill seemed fine at a quick glance. If you order multiple items, you won’t really have an idea what your total is until the bill comes because not every little item has a price clearly visible.
The second time, I came here for convenience but kept my order limited to keep the bill low. Turns out, it was still expensive. The bill is all in Turkish so you don’t understand what each item is and it adds to the confusion.
They typically serve the cream and honey together, this morning I got only a portion of cream at first and requested them to add a little honey on top after.
When the bill came I was charged separately for cream and honey but the price seemed ridiculous. Pretty sure yesterday I paid less for 1 portion of honey and cream combined.
I tried to question the charge, at first he admitted it was charged as an extra portion but then came back to say the bill was fine and that the big separate charge was to add the honey later. The math doesn’t add up compared to my bill yesterday where I ordered the same honey and cream.
Anyway the staff’s attitude was ridiculous, I was alone and with a language barrier it’s harder to figure these things out so I left.
But better to avoid the place overall because as others have described, this experience can be very...
