Worst service ever - this is a true and genuine review, my reviews are always fair and I always give praise where deserved also!
Perhaps as we were two lone women a bunch of male staff felt they could be really rude to us and bully us. This is my main concern travelling as a young woman alone in another country. I felt incredibly uncomfortable with the tone of the way staff spoke to me and their aggression. Wish I had now taken all of their names.
We sat next to the fountain but were told to move since they were closing it. We were then sat at a cramped table. Literally a minute after, another group were allowed to sit near the fountain, so I simply asked why we could not if they are being allowed to, and if we could move back there (we moved back).
Then the wrong order was provided for my mum. Mum questioned this and the guy, in a very rude tone said no this is what you asked for. Mum gave up arguing and ate half of her dessert which she didnt even want since he was not willing to rectify.
Staff (2-3 males) were constantly seen laughing at us as we tried to enjoy our dessert.
Last but not least, when it came to pay, I tapped my card and got up (but was not leaving, mum was still sitting and having her tea), I was shouted at by the man, and told not to leave since the payment hasnt gone through yet (I believe he made it fail on purpose to humiliate me, since he sent me inside to pay and again was laughing at me). Inside I was told card payments are not being accepted (someone next to me just paid by card). I simply said I don’t have cash and can only pay by card. Miraculously after 1minute, they were able to take card payment again!
Disgusting service, poor management and staff (male staff members we had to deal with after 11pm on the 31st October).
On a separate note, the desserts here are really delicious if only the service...
Read moreIf you are a tourist (non-Turkish speaker), then beware of being scammed by the waiters at Viyana. While the food is good, customer service is poor, potentially with racist undertones.
This is not the first time we came to Viyana Kahvesi. We were a group of English speakers and we ordered our regular cheesecake with melted chocolate. When the food came, we pointed out to the waiter that the dose of chocolate was less than what we are used to at the Viyana opposite Galata Tower. He added more chocolate and brought back the plates. However, when the bill came, they charged us for extra chocolate. We told the waiter that we did not request for extra, rather we did not receive the usual amount of chocolate. He began telling us that he is not fluent in English and brought in his manager. The manager came and used Google translate to explain himself but we were suprised - and offended - he did not translate in English but another language which I'll not mention here, but which we felt was prejudiced against us.
While we did not bother about the unfair extra cost which we end up paying, we seriously did not appreciate the waiter's and manager's way of dealing with customers. First, they made prejudiced, potentially racist, assumptions about us. Second, their aim was simply trying to get the bill higher rather than understand the need of the customer. If Viyana Kahvesi wants to maintain their standard, they should train their staff better in customer service, else the business won't...
Read moreI was very indignant at the work of the staff of this cafe. I am a foreigner, my phone and SIM card do not work. I heard a lot about your cafe, decided to visit and taste your desserts. I came to the right place and was unpleasantly surprised. there were no seats in the restaurant, seats were on the top floor. I sat down, the waiters walked past me without paying attention, and when I, all the same, called a waitress, she reluctantly turned to me. I asked for wi-fi. she just spread her hands, showing that there is no such thing. Okay, I say, how can I order something then, because you have a menu according to QR code? she spread her arms again, with a stupid smile on her face. she even did not offer in words what is on the menu. guys! What ?are you kidding me about ???? then I decided to go to the cashier and to the very showcase with desserts to order from there, since the waiters don't care about the guests. but even behind the window at the checkout, everyone did not care, here they were preparing orders for seated guests! this is a nightmare, I have never seen such a mess. trying to turn to someone, I realized that it was useless and left this place without trying anything. this is the most disgusting place I've been ….. This is the first time I see such indifference and...
