Read moreA long review, but I kindly ask the hotel management to read it to the end.
For several years now, I have chosen to stay exclusively at this hotel. Each visit reaffirms what makes it so special — its unique, almost magical sense of home. The service is excellent, the cleanliness impeccable, and the food always delightful.
But the true soul of this hotel lies in its people. It’s the staff — many of whom remain unchanged over the years — that create this atmosphere of familiarity and comfort. I know them by name, and they know me. When I arrive from the airport, I already know Emre will greet me at the door with his warm smile and a heartfelt “hoş geldiniz.” And at reception, it’s always Akin, the manager, who welcomes me.
I must honestly say — having stayed at many hotels around the world — I have never encountered a manager like Akin. He treats every guest with sincere care, attention, and quiet professionalism. For me, this hotel would lose its feeling of “home” without him. My friends, too, have noticed his genuine warmth and professionalism. I sincerely hope the management understands how valuable he is.
I always book a suite or a studio — in my view, the best value-for-money choice in Istanbul. The rooms are spacious, the pillows comfortable, the bedding luxurious, the toiletries high-quality, and even the hairdryer is a thoughtful detail for women who care about such things.
Now, I want to address the hotel management directly — because I know you read every guest review, and that alone speaks to your high standards of service and guest care.
Unfortunately, this Monday something happened that has now repeated itself for the third time.
The first time, I experienced a situation that left me with a bad impression — but I chose to say nothing, assuming someone was having a bad day. The second time, I again stayed silent, thinking perhaps the person was going through something personal. But the third time, I’ve decided it’s time to speak up — because I can no longer leave this hotel, where I spend more in one day than many employees make in a month, feeling disrespected and disappointed. Once again, the issue was with Mr. Emre at reception. His tone is cold, his communication dismissive, and his attitude, frankly, inappropriate for a hotel of this standard. During a previous stay, I had already made a new reservation for my next visit. I kindly asked Mr. Emre to assist me with it. His reply was rude and unhelpful — simply because the reservation had been made on Booking.com rather than the hotel’s official website. After three days of excellent care and service from everyone else, one person managed to erase the good impression — and I left with a heavy heart.
Monday, I had the misfortune of checking out with him again. I already sensed there might be a problem, but hoped for better. Since my room had been prepaid several days earlier, I asked him to confirm that the charge wouldn’t be processed a second time. To avoid any misunderstanding, I involved Daria to help with translation.
And yet again, I was met with a disrespectful tone — and even accused of lying.
Of course, misunderstandings can happen, especially in a hotel that welcomes international guests. Not everyone speaks fluent English. But any issue can be solved with kindness and willingness. With Mr. Emre, these qualities are consistently absent.
Once again, I left your hotel with disappointment. And were it not for the fact that Pera Palace feels like home to me, and that your staff feel like family, I might have chosen not to return.
But I’m writing this because I truly care — about the hotel, about your team, and about the experience of future guests. No guest should leave feeling the way I did.
It is unfair to the rest of your wonderful team, who genuinely care about their work and your guests.
I am not asking you to make drastic decisions about Mr. Emre. But perhaps there is a place in Istanbul better suited to his cold and dismissive attitude toward guests.

Read moreGuest facing Staff ok but Management need to get a grip ! We stayed 7 nights at the Pera, wishing to be in the dining and culture quarter rather than stuck in the tourist trap of Sultanahmet. Walking, or the excellent trams, to see the key sights was easy and we were always grateful to return to the lively but relative calm of Beyoglu. If you stay in Istanbul for more than 3 nights , I would strongly recommend this. So location 5 stars. Turning to the hotel itself, we did on booking ask Pera for a balcony room but, although we were staying for a full week, our request for any upgrade or a balcony room was denied on arrival. The shower room was very compact (we missed our twin basins) but this was as expected and the water pressure was excellent. We also mentioned that we were celebrating my being five years clear from illness. This may have resulted in the bowl of fruit in our room ? But on day two we were shocked to find the maid had taken the fruit, removed our gowns, and the chocolate previously left by our beds !!! We had to chase the front desk several times to get this remedied and several hours later someone finally knocked on our door; proudly saying that the replacement fruit was "complimentary". ! The replacement gown was very small and thin. On all subsequent days no chocolates were left and reception said ( after we had had cause to point this out for a second time) that we would have to alert them every day if we wanted our room cleaned as housekeeping denied all of our complaints and would no longer enter the room ! We asked front desk for advice on how to get to the ferry to Eyup. On their advice, we ended up taking a rather tortuous route down to Tophane tram, several stops over the water to Eminonou, only to discover that the ferry actually departed from or own side of the water and we could have walked there directly in less time the it took to get to the other side, let alone adding the walk back over the bridge - not that impressive. Positives; breakfast was generally good ( but not exceptional) - on one occasion when Eggs Benedict was flagged on the counter my wife took the poached egg, and was told that the Hollandaise sauce would be ready "soon"- this never materialized and we were bang in the middle of the breakfast period so no excuses. The staff were generally helpful and pleasant and, after an expensive massage and Turkish bath was much shorter than advertised, we were offered a complimentary massage the following day. We suspect that this was at the cost of the spa team rather than the hotel themselves ! The gym and indoor basement pool were pleasant although I did see dead cockroach floating in the hot tub on one occasion. Our windows were very effective at cutting out the noise of the city and the blackout curtains meant we slept well on comfortable bed. So our room rate was reasonable for what purports to be a five star, although , as with so many hotels around the world, it is in reality more like a four. Given that, we paid a far price and had an overall...
