Had an awful experience with the cafe owner/cashier there today. For context, I am a journalist working remotely in Istanbul. I live in Balat neighbourhood.
It’s actually a lovely place but for whatever reason, the cafe owner told me that I because I didn’t ask for permission to drink my own water, I wasn’t allowed to remain in the cafe??
I offered to buy a coffee on the spot, but he didn’t care. Just wanted me out. I tried asking him what exactly I did wrong and he couldn’t give a response.
I walked out and I am never going back.
For context, I have been patronising this cafe almost everyday. If he had wanted me to order more, I would have happily done it. All he had to do was ask.
A rather short-sighted business person if you ask me.
