XI CENTURY BYZANTINE PAINTINGS ERASED FOREVER FROM HISTORY
This Byzantine church from the XI century, was turned into mosque in the XVI century, and NOW 2024 it was decided to paint completely white over the original paintings destroying an important Byzantine heritage. Since 1590 this historical building was daily used as a mosque, without erasing anything, and only NOW 2024 is has been destroyed forever in the wish of erasing culture from Istanbul by covering the paints, not with a curtain but removing them forever. Istanbul was always a mixed cultural and religious place, coexisting and enriching from the mix, but NOT ANYMORE. This is unbelievable, intolerable. Very silent, plain, peaceful even isolated mosque and under renovation for the time being. I met a young, well educated muezzin, who told me few things about the mosque and the cistern below.
