Biggest Tourist Scam in Istanbul – Avoid This Restaurant!
If you want to be scammed and robbed, this is the place for you! I ended up here because a taxi driver tricked me into coming. As soon as I got out of the taxi, a waiter was already waiting outside to “help” with my bags and led me to a completely empty restaurant – that should have been my first warning sign!
I ordered one portion of fish, they brought me a massive portion for seven people and charged me 1,400 TL. I asked for one glass of wine, they brought an entire bottle and charged me a shocking 4,100 TL – was it made from the tears of Egyptian pharaohs?!
They also brought a fish appetizer I never ordered and charged me 350 TL. On top of that, a mysterious “TAX” fee of 1,480 TL appeared on my bill – for what exactly? The air? The Bosphorus view? My tourist gullibility?!
TOTAL: 11,100 TL for a meal for me and 2 child!
To put this robbery into perspective – the day before, I dined at The House Café Ortaköy, one of the best restaurants in Istanbul, and for an excellent meal, I paid only 2,500 TL.
When I questioned the waiter about the bill, he simply said “kusura bakma” (don’t check the change) – because he KNEW they had ripped me off and wanted me to leave as soon as possible!
THIS IS NOT A RESTAURANT – THIS IS A TOURIST TRAP & A SCAM! Those 4.7-star reviews are fake...
Read moreWe were coaxed here by a taxi driver early in the day. We decided it would be nice there but would be nicer to experience the views at night time. We got a taxi from our hotel and showed him the address(from a leaflet the taxi driver previous gave) He didn't know where it was, clearly called the restaurant..we then payed the taxi driver but were greeted by a man well dressed and a lady well dressed. We were escorted to the restaurant and when I looked behind me the taxi driver was following and then was sitting down eating. We were asked what did we want to eat and been that it was near a port we said fish. There was options forced onto us and due to language barrier it was hard understand so we just agreed. We still felt uneasy as prices were not clearly posted and no time given to look at the menu. We decided to leave due to the uneasiness and asked for the bill..10,000tl we were charged. ABSOLUTE ROBBERY. food was only ok and not what it should be. Ruined the whole experience of the area and istanbul. For this alone it ruined the holiday and we would not return to istanbul. They clearly target tourists....
Read moreTerrible Experience at Mira Port Restaurant in Istanbul
Our visit to Mira Port was an absolute disaster, and we regret trusting our tourist guide, who claimed it was his father's restaurant. The waiter brought a cold platter without informing us of the price or asking for our preference, and the quality was subpar.
When the main dishes arrived, we were shocked by the exorbitant price—€550 for four people, which is outrageous. We had been promised a 50% discount by the guide, but this was conveniently "forgotten" when the bill came. Adding insult to injury, one of the meat pieces had a hair attached to it. We pointed this out to the staff, but it was met with indifference.
To make matters worse, when the bill came, the waiter forcefully insisted that we add a tip to the total—despite the terrible service and experience! It was incredibly unprofessional and made us feel even more uncomfortable.
The food was average at best, overpriced, and the service was appalling. This experience left us feeling cheated and deeply disappointed. I strongly advise against visiting Mira Port unless you're ready...
