There were six of us (three bedrooms) and we paid an extra 10 euros for higher floor windows with views which was worth it - and I'm not really a "have to have a view" kind of person.||||LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION||||It doesn't get better than this. I refused to stay over in the Old City in some big chain hotel with restaurants catering to tourists who don't know better so they serve expensive/poor quality food. And the Asian side is great, but then there's the ferry to deal with - super quick, but if you hit rush hour then there's a ton of people and it's just time that gets eaten away. This hotel's location is PERFECT for those who want to go everywhere as you're pretty much right in the middle of things. When the taxi let us out in front of the hotel we were horrified as it looked like a Home Depot had exploded up and down the street. This was obviously the one street in the city where if you needed a toilet or light fixture or chainsaw you were good to go. Once you got inside, it was a nice hotel with great staff. So, you just had to be ready when you walked out in the morning to see that wrenches were on sale.||||The funicular that gets you up to Galata tower is about 20 paces away from the hotel's entrance. We probably walked by it a half dozen times before we figured that out, but we honestly didn't mind the hike up the hill to Istaklal Street.||||The traffic is crazy and you have to be really careful crossing the street to get over to the main intersection where you can either get on the train, walk over to the ferry or take the bridge over to the Old City. Our kids are 20-21 years old. If they had been little I would have been terrified because the cars really don't stop. We'd usually wait for the locals to step off the curb first and then follow them. ||||They left us a free bottle of water in the room every night which was nice and they kept our room in tip-top shape every day. Clean, comfortable and very safe. Overall, the staff couldn't have been nicer people. We looked forward to seeing them every morning and night down in the lobby.||||Oh, we did go up to the restaurant and had one drink and were stunned at how expensive it was. Obviously, if you're in a hotel with no view this is the place to come for a drink and view of the Old City. We only did that once because our rooms had the exact same view one floor down. My sister had done a lot of research on restaurants before we left so we never ate in the hotel's breakfast spot so I can't comment on quality/variety.||||Also, there's a great stand at the corner that made the best fresh squeezed pomegranate and pom/orange juice we had - daily treat for pennies vs. what you'd pay for in the restaurants.||||Would I stay...
Read moreThis hotel met my needs of being close to transportation, easy access from the road, without any stairs or hills , and quality rooms . It is very close to the tram 1 that takes you to the touristy areas, and the Karakoy ferry terminals on the West Bank of the Galata Bridge . The frequent service tram takes you across the bridge to the Eminonu ferry terminals on the east bank of the Galata Bridge. A number of buses stop close to the hotel, before they turn to go to the bus terminal . Breakfast was great with very cordial staff, and made to order omelettes!. The view from the restaurant and breakfast area is of Galata Bridge, Golden Horn and Sulemania Mosque, so making for a relaxing time. I would not get the rooms with a view of Galata, unless you get the top floor. We had two ugly buildings that obscured the view , so the extra monies for the “view” was not worth it. Hotel management was helpful and when I needed to call Turkish Airlines, they dialed the number on their personal cell phone, as I would have international roaming charges. Though Taksim Square is central to the action, and Sultan Ahmet area close to the historic sites, this place made it easy to get to the touristy places by being in the middle. There is a funicular next to the hotel that connects to the subway and tram to Taksim square. Galata Tower is close by. There are a number of restaurants on the Galata Bridge lower level and more reasonably priced restaurants 5 minutes walk , next to the Karakoy ferry terminal, on the southwest side of...
