Antique Cafe — Restaurant in Muratpaşa

We were drawn in by the sign saying they offered vegan and vegetarian dishes, and by a warm conversation with the proprietor who seemed genuinely interested in catering to our needs, while being totally unpressuring - a delightful contrast with other restaurant touts.

Don't be put off by the simplicity of the written menu: it doesn't do justice to the complex and diverse dishes on offer. We explained my partner's food allergies, and they were enthusiastic about modifying items on the menu and even creating custom dishes for us. We shared the "meze plate", 6 vegetarian/vegan dishes each offering a unique and delightful combination of flavours, from a tangy and garlicky beetroot houmous to celeriac with subtly sweet orange notes.

For our main course we had the "Turkish dish of the day", which was slow cooked beef with stir fried vegetables. The beef was tender, juicy and subtly and exquisitely seasoned, and the vegetables were cooked just enough to bring out their fresh natural flavours - I particularly enjoyed the aubergine with a hint of soy sauce. We also had a plate of calamari, which was unusually tender and delicious with a light corn batter. Not even on the menu was the salad we were offered, a sesame seed 'tabbouleh' with chickpeas, fresh herbs and greens, raw red cabbage and a light, tangy dressing.

Portion sizes were generous, and the man and woman running the place are incredibly friendly and hospitable, with impeccable English. Absolutely the best food we’ve had in Turkey!! I am vegan and my boyfriend is an omnivore. I ordered the tofu kebab and the avocado salad. The lovely tomato sauce on the tofu kebab was so delightful. The rice and veggie sides were delicious! The avocado salad had an exquisite homemade dressing on it that made the salad pop with flavor! It was delectable! My partner and I came here for our first meal of our holiday and were not disappointed. Not only was the place itself homely, but the owners were so welcoming, helpful, funny and not to mention spoke great English. The orange juice is freshly squeezed from the oranges in the courtyard where they collect them in front of you, this was such a great experience. The food itself tasted great and was seasoned well.
