We loved this hotel. I'm going to do the only con to get it out of the way. We arrived late on Wednesday and the room (booked as a standard room) turned out to be too small for us, with no wardrobe or drawers. Next morning we asked for a bigger room. The lady at reception couldnt have been nicer and we were moved to a deluxe double room with plenty of space for all of our belongings, and a kettle with tea, coffee etc, and a mini fridge, both of which the original room didnt have, so when you're booking, make sure you book a room which has everything you need. The air con is really good, even in our original smaller room. The shower is good, but just remember to let it run for ten minutes to let the water heat up. The bed is comfy. The architecture of the hotel itself is stunning. You really take a step back in time, and there are trees and plants everywhere which make it a beautiful place to be. The main bit of the hotel (where the reception is) is where you go for breakfast. Traditionally Turkish i would say, so if you embrace food of a different culture then there s a multitude of cheese, meat, veg, fruit, breads, some cereals, yoghurt, oatmeal and even lentil soup. Two lovely ladies make the most fantastic omelettes to order. There s tea, coffee, fruit juice & bottled water. In the same area is a small pool surrounded by 8 sunbeds, some tables and chairs, including 3 or 4 tables which are under a canopy so they are in the shade at all times of the day. This area is where the live entertainment happens in the evening - nothing riotous, just really nice chilled music in the twighlight to make you appreciate what life is REALLY all about. The best bit about this area (ok, maybe not everyone will agree with me here...) is the dog who had made this hotel her home for the last 14 years. She mostly sleeps in the shade, but sometimes she'll have a little wander around the tables, or across the walkway to the restaurant for a drink from the water feature. She won't bother with you unless you give her attention, she doesn't beg and she's a gentle wee darling. Be warned though, if you give her a pat on the head, she WILL roll over and she'll let you spend the next hour rubbing her belly. Incidentally, if you're a dog or cat lover, there's a number of cats and a handful of dogs in the streets the Old Town. None of them come bothering you for food, but I wish I'd known about them so that I could have brought some bags of treats from home. We bought a plastic bowl and carried bottles of water for any dogs we met though, as it is VERY hot for dogs. As I say, this is only for folk that want to do it. If you're not into dogs and cats, they won't come anywhere near you unless you give them attention, so dont let this put you off. Back to the hotel...20 seconds walk from the reception/pool area is the other part of the hotel, with more rooms, another pool and the restaurant/bar. This is a great place to sit as it has huge fans and a water feature with fish. There s a wide variety of drinks - cocktails, sangria, beers, soft drinks, coffee. We didnt sample the food menu, but it wasnt for the want of trying on my part - my fiancé just kept finding other places he wanted to eat, but when we come.back next year I won't be taking no for an answer. It s a fantastic menu - I think actually the biggest and most varied menu that I saw anywhere in the Old Town. To sum up this hotel - Every member of staff we encountered was brilliant. They seemed genuinely delighted and appreciative when we thanked them in Turkish. I ve only got good things to say about this hotel, and I m not sure if I mentioned that when we asked for the room upgrade, there was no quibble about it and it doesn't look like they charged us for the upgrade. I wouldnt advise deliberately booking a small room in the hope of getting a free upgrade, I m just showing how accommodating they are. My apologies for this long review but we've loved EVERYTHING about this hotel and have had a super chilled week. We are leaving today feeling fully rejuvenated and we will be booking to...
Read moreOne of the worse stays I've experienced in a long time. I'm so confused by the reviews I've read for this place, as they seem so positive, which is why we picked it in the first place, but I suspect we got papped into an unrenovated room that had absolutely seen better days, I barely know where to start.
Housekeeping came and did our room, took away the dirty towels and didn't replace them, the phone in the room didn't work so I had to go to reception and ask for the replacement, that didnt happen the night I asked, I had to go back the next morning to ask again and then 30 minutes later, once again, back to reception to ask again and this time I said I'd wait, but the Housekeeping girl came to our room with them 5 minutes later, when she came she asked me if we still wanted our room cleaned, odd behaviour....I said yes, but she never came back. In the 4 nights we spent here, the room was done, once!
There was a leak in the room, which I reported, a maintenance guy came, made a mess of the sink, said he had to locate where it was coming from and pointed to upstairs, left and the leak was never fixed. It went all night. Given that there's and electric hairdryer in this general area, this was actually dangerous. I thought with the mess he left, housekeeping would definitely come, but that didnt happen.
The hairdryer was old fashioned and not good.
The WiFi didn't work in the bedroom, the tv was old so you couldn't cast on to it or watch YouTube or Netflix, there was a hailstones while we were there which damaged trees on the property and emergency services were called out, I'd have pursued the leak in our bedroom more, but its seemed like they had enough to cope with. Because of the weather we spent an unpleasant evening in our room, watching the news, cos we couldn't access the Internet and the tv was kak.
Everything in the room, had just seen better days, the windows didnt lock, the floorboards/laminate had bits missing, the bathroom was missing grouting and silicone, its the type of shower you keep your flip flops on to use. The shower head was disgusting. The lower slats of the blinds were broken, another reason for an uncomfortable sleep, when you couple that with the window not locking
I didn't use the pool at all, it had bird dropping all around it for the entire length of our stay, despite there being staff, with eyes...no one cleaned it. Disgusting!
The breakfast was mediocre, you'll find something to eat, I had pancakes each morning, it was an odd combination of foods imo, but maybe this is normal for turkey.
On top of all this, the noise! Bottle collection at half 2/3 in the morning, the truck beeping as it backs down the lane and then bottles being dumped into it for a half hour, plus the noise from pubs and clubs til approx. 1am....we didn't get a single decent night sleep the entire time we were there. This had a real and impactful knock on affect to the next leg of our holiday, we flew to Istanbul the day we checked out, it was republic day and we had plans to see fireworks on the bosphorus, we were entirely too tired after traveling and 4 days of broken sleep to follow through with our plans. Thats what annoyed me the most about having stayed at this hotel. The lack of sleep and the lack of care and concern from the staff member I spoke to.
When checking out, I was asked how our stay was. I didn't go into everything as listed above, as I'd been in to the reception entirely too many times already, cos the phone in the room didnt work, so he was aware. But I did say we didnt enjoy our stay because of lack of sleep and all that was offered, was next time you visit we'II do you a good deal. As if I'd ever come back here, after this stay.
Imo, we should have at least been partially refunded for this stay, it was in absolutely no way a 4 star experienced and nothing like the photos advertised on...
Read moreWe havent stay in this amazing hotel but nect time we will definitly stay at the Alp Paşa hotel. Hotel owner Mr.Alp had this hotel almost 30 years. After this hotel he had other restaurants and old buildings in time. They had to protect to original building and they can only renew the buildings which how they became priceless. When you walk in the hotel or in the old city streets , feel like time travel to Ottoman time city even before the Ottoman’s. Selçuklu and Roman antiques buildings pieces all over the city. While we were waşking we decided to eat something in the Hotel Alp Paşa. It was a breath taking moment. I couldnt stop my self to walk around and inside the hotel and took lots of photos. The manager of the hotel Mr Ali Osman briefly gave me info about the hotel. I learned hot floors from the old times, they were covered with the sea stones this way when they walk in the “value” it gave their feet a nice massage. We immediately did the same thing as the old owners of the building. We had nice spaghetti bolognese and it was dance and it was perfect thanx to the chef. If you are looking for an amazing experience and kind of a small-time travel wanna do, definitely need to go to this hotel and this old City of Antalya ( Adalya). I wish could read every building and palaces little stories on their doors or somewhere around the building. Because easily you can see some of the houses so big some of the less fancy and very small. You can see some families were so rich and they build big palaces and places. When I was curious about it I made a little research about it and I went into Ottoman Archives. What I found Antalya( Adalya) was very small trade town/city... Tekelioglu family were very strong and they were making fortune with trade. They built lots of houses, palaces, storage buildings( ambars) inside and outside of the old city ( in Castle ) they had lots of buildings and they were spending their money to this properties. Also there was a quick arantine hospital/ building, girl schools, Italian school. Church, Rum school and hospital and Hammam. When Tekelioglu family were rioting to family ( it took 2 years) it end up most of the family had to force to leave the Adalta( Antalya) and moved to Selanik (around 51 family members). Ottoman Empire had them everything in Antalya old city their gardens, houses, palaces and all the fortune moved to Empire account. After that we can see ottoman government buildings around or in the old city. If you want to know about Tekelioglu family please read the Tekelioglu ( aşiretleri) book from the Resul Tekeli . Lots of things to tell about this old city. Definitly need to go and see. 40 years it was under the Tekelioğlu family control, so many buildings were belongs to them. I hope hotel owners will make a contrubite and historians can find out more details about...
