HOTEL AND ROOM: (classic 2bed room almost 70€ per night)
very friendly stuff (almost english speaking) safe area for parking clean and bright rooms comfy bed in higher levels (I've been 10th floor) great view
old and used furniture, old style design air conditioner is not working (even in my friends room 5 levels down it was 26°C) room for 2 but just 1x bed linen no shampoo, hair conditioner, body lotion, shoes, toothpaste, toothbrush
BREAKFAST:
almost everything for European breakfast but not comparable with Turkish hotels (breakfast in Turkey is the most important mealtime) even here friendly stuff (with some exceptions) everything was fresh an tasty capuchino was tasty Kefir seemed to be really fresh and was amazing tasty the boiled beef was surprisingly soft and tasty
there was no choco cream at all (like Nutella) not all coffee machines are working (2 of 4) and I had to wait in a line coffee wasn't tasty explanation on the coffee machine was Chinese porridge was sweetened (why?) to many tables and chairs, if every chair is in use, it's almost impossible to move between without to ask someone to give you some space to walk through the carpet wasn't clean the stuff takes your dishes, even if you're not finished, if you just looking shortly at the foot court for something tasty
ENVIRONMENT:
it's located close to Besarabski Basar, where you will find all the best nightlife locations in Kiev the location is luckily not directly at this place and that's why it's really calm and quiet during the night also a big shopping mall is close to the hotel the stadium is so close, you could try to jump into it
don't use the taxi driver in front of that hotel (usually from the Hotel to Besarabski Basar you will pay around 30-40 Grivna maximum -around 1€-, but taxidriver at the hotel will take 200 Grivna and tell you it's the cheapest price) Don't trust them and use UBER!!! If you catched up a lady in a bar and you would like to go to your room with her, the security guard prohibit the entrance with that lady, if she has no passport (I was sitting in the lobby and observed a situation like that with my friend). No matter if you payed for a 2 person room and showing your documents. If you complain about something (in my case the not working air conditioner) they are more acting as they would trying to fix it, but nothing happens. They where giving me a coupon for a wine in their bar and that's it.
SUMMARY:
In general a good hotel well located and a vary good breakfast buffet (with some small exceptions). Friendly stuff and clean rooms. Sad, that I had to ask for shampoo and something like that, what is surely not common. The bed was really comfortable, but at the end I left the hotel, because I can't sleep with a constant...
Read moreLooking for a central hotel in Kyiv with parking facilities, we booked three nights and stayed at this hotel last week. Yes, it is relatively central and they have a large parking lot, but that was about it. The entire hotel carries a flair of old, ostentatious Soviet pomp, but is pretty run down and the staff is uncoordinated and not very service oriented. The first night, we arrived rather late and decided to have something to eat in the hotel's restaurant. Even if just a few tables were occupied, we were at first blatantly ignored by the waiters and when they finally decided to get our orders, many of the drinks on the menu were not available and we were told that it would take at least 45 minutes if we wanted something to eat. We decided to order food anyway and being just two persons, it shouldn't have been too difficult to bring us our food at the same time. My company got his food after a while, but finished his meal before my food was served just shy of an hour after we ordered. I had ordered a medium rare steak and was served a dry, chewy, not-so-pleasant well done piece of meat. After waiting yet another while for the waitress' attention, I complained about the food and was briskly told that they will of course take it back, but it will take another 45 minutes to prepare a new meal. We didn't really have time for that, so I decided to return the meat and tried to satisfy myself with potatoes and mushrooms. The cake I ordered for desert was still partially frozen and probably some cheap convenience product just taken out of the freezer. It was probably the worst and most expensive meal we had during two weeks in Ukraine. The next day, we needed a taxi, but the drivers waiting outside the hotel are just there to rip off unknowing tourists with unreasonable prices. The front desk staff refused to call us a proper taxi instead, so we had to stroll down to the main road and get a taxi from there. Be aware if you are planning to use public transport. The area is quite hilly and the next metro stop is quite a bit away. It could be tedious to get there with a...
Read moreI would give it 3-4 stars because the room was much better than expected based on the overall look of the hotel and how the entrance/lobby, which are seriously outdated. But as this was one of their remodelled rooms (don't stay in the old ones), it was a pleasant surprise - especially the modern-looking bathroom. However, it all went downhill from there.
This hotel is very popular with large groups, often of sports teams, which means a packed reception at check-in and even more packed breakfast buffet. And worst of all, loud party people in the middle of the night. And the walls are quite thin, so you will hear EVERYTHING (yes, not only loud TV but also the girlfriends they bring to the rooms). Sleep, you will not in this hotel
Also, remember the nice, modern bathroom I mentioned at the beginning? The sink must have been clogged, as it remained full of water for several seconds even after the shortest use of the water faucet.
So overall this hotel is not a bad choice for groups, especially as they have many conference rooms, and the rooms are cheaper than President next door, but they're not so good for couples or solo travelers (or for people who would like a full night of sleep). They definitely need to pay attention to...
