My wife and I went to celebrate San Valentine in this restaurant of which I had good memories during the last two times I went there last year. Today, a complete disappointment.

Service was terrible.

My wife arrived earlier than me . Nobody went to her table to ask if she wanted to order something (she would have had some wine while I was stuck in the traffic).

I ordered a beef-based dish. The menu specified beef and potatoes (that's it). I received a dish full of mushrooms which I cannot eat since I have allergy to mushrooms. They mentioned that the fault was mine that I did not mention the allergy before making the order (they didn't ask too though). I had to pay for this dish. Unbelievable.

My wife ordered a white mulled wine and that was billed as a cocktail nobody asked/received. We complained, but they didn't want to hear anything so we ended up paying the white wine more than its real cost on menu.

I had to ask for the bill three times and received it after 30 minutes. I could have seen the waiters enjoying their time altogether without caring about us (the customers).

The waiter always replied to us with a very rude tone, and did not care at all about our needs as customers of a restaurant.

My foreigner friends, avoid this place at all costs. There are many good Ukrainian restaurant out there with spectacular services, but not this one.

Вкус еды неплохой, но по некоторым элементам есть замечания. Особенно по включению чаевых (привет мелким трюкам из поведенческой экономики). Обо всем по порядку:

В целом хорош для бизнес ланча: нормальные порции, 3 блюда и напиток за 165 грн, на вкус хорошо, но не более. То есть обычная, нормальная еда.

Заказал тыквенный со щечками суп и основного меню. Он довольно вкусный, но порция не большая и стоимость 140 грн + 10% обслуживание: итого больше 150. Мне кажется, что для этого супа это было непомерно дорого.

Интерьер норм, старались сделать с нотками национального колорита. Мое мнение – получилось условно. Обычный себе интерьер. Чисто, в том числе и в туалете – это, конечно же, плюс.

Отдельный момент – включение чаевых в счет. К вашему счету автоматически добавят 10%. С одной стороны, об этом предупреждают надписи на меню, внизу, шрифтом, размер которого меньше основного текста. Но с другой стороны, мы вот заговорились с товарищем и не заметили. Вдобавок еще «автоматом» добавили наличными сверху.

Думаю, что можно отказаться платить чаевые, но очевидно, что так делают немногие. По моему мнению для чего это сделано: человек менее склонен отменять или изменять выбор, который сделан за него. Об этом есть ряд исследований. Из популярного, об этом говорил поведенческий экономист Дэн Ариэли. Есть крутая его книга Predictably Irrational об этом или можно посмотреть его короткое выступление на TEDx. То есть при помощи мелких психологических «трюков» с вас еще снимают 10%.

Соответственно, по моему личному мнению, тем самым владельцы заведения желают не только заработать на блюдах, которые не очень дешевые, но также и возложить на посетителя обязательство по оплате зарплаты персонала. По итогу дня, я понимаю, что меня «предупредили» об этих автоматических чаевых написав мелкую строчку в меню. Также понимаю, что я мог отказаться их платить, тем самым, возможно, вызвав обиженный или сердитый взгляд официанта, но очевидно, что я не хочу этих неприятных эмоций, на которые меня подталкивает владелец. Также я хотел бы все-таки выбирать оставлять чаевые или нет и сколько (хоть как правило и оставляю 10%). Это все оставило негативное впечатление о месте и я сюда навряд ли вернусь.

The taste of food is not bad, but there are some comments which follow below. Especially for the inclusion of tips (hello to small tricks from the behavioral economics). First things first:

In general, good for a business lunch: normal servings, 3 dishes and a drink for 165 UAH, it tastes good, but no more. That is, ordinary, normal food.

I ordered pumpkin soup with veal cheeks from the main menu. It is quite tasty, but the portion is not large and the cost is 140 UAH + 10% service: total more than 150. It seems to me that it was prohibitively expensive for a soup of this kind and size.

The interior is ok, though not splendid - they tried to make it with notes of national color and in my opinion it did not play very well. One may say it is “usual”. It is clean, though including in the toilet - this, of course, is a plus.

A separate point is the inclusion of tips in the bill: 10% will be automatically added to your bill. On the one hand, the inscriptions on the menu below warn about this in a font that is smaller than the main text. But on the other hand, we talked with a friend and did not notice it. In addition we added “automatically” some cash on top of that.

I think that you can refuse to pay tips, but it is obvious that only few do so. In my opinion, why this is done: a person is less inclined to cancel or change the choice made for him beforehand.
