Museum of Toilet History — Attraction in Kyiv

This may sound odd, but this is probably the best curated museum in Kiev.

The first room contains more historical maps of the city than the Kyiv City Museum.

It moves on to explain the glorious history of human fecal easing, but somehow makes it really interesting.

Almost all info is available in English as well as Ukrainian, and there's even an app you can download if you need it in Russian.

As well as the development of the humble commode there are delightful bonus sections like "toilets in prison throughout the world" and "toilets on various modes of transport". Nor must we forget the Guinness World Record holding collection of toilet memorabilia. It all helps to move you around the fascinating exhibit like a gymnast on a high fibre diet.

The Toilet History museum deserves a place in the annals of must-see attractions. Like the Sex Museum in Amsterdam or the Pencil Museum in Keswick, this curiosity will stick with you long after the assorted Roman pottery fragments of other museums have been flushed from your memory.

I wasn't sure about it at first, and only went seeing the good reviews and the fact that it holds a world record for the largest collection of toilet souvenirs, but I can say it was definitely worth it! They also have a lot of souvenirs to buy even though I didn't buy any myself.

The entrance fee plus guide/audioguide was UAH250 and the guide Basel spoke great English and was knowledgeable about the exhibits. It included different cultures and shows a long stretch of history. У Києві є музей, якого немає більше ніде (в музеї кажуть - в світі, Вікіпедія каже - в Східній Європі). Це - Музей історії туалету. Музей приватний, і був відкритий сімейною парою, яка зібрала найбільшу (єдину) колекцію статуеток унітазів, а також видала велику книгу про історію туалету (700+ альбомних сторінок, близько 300 грн). Колекція занесена в обидві книги рекордів, а до випуску готується другий том книги. Музей знаходиться практично в центрі, в декількох хвилинах пішки від м.Кловська, в історичній будівлі оборонної вежі. Ціна вхідного квитка (50 грн. - дорослий, 25 грн. - дитячий) включає обов'язкову екскурсію. Увага! У касі музею немає терміналу і розрахунок можливий тільки готівкою. Це відноситься і до придбання сувенірів. Найближчий банкомат, зі слів працівників, біля метро: 0 Музей приватний, працює щоденно з 2007 року, а зовні експозиція та приміщення виглядають, як ніби вчора відкрилися. Персонал дуже уважний і доброзичливий (я розрахувалася переказом на карту адміністратору, яка пожаліла дитину, що розтіклася на стільці після підйому узвізом) :), екскурсоводи розповідають цікаво, на питання відповідають детально :) Демонстрації не проводяться! На замітку: в будівлі є туалет, треба запитати в разі потреби. При вході до приміщення музея видають бахіли. Сам музей являє собою два суміжних приміщення середнього розміру, заставлених вздовж периметра експонатами, і кімнати кінозали. Вся екскурсія та пильний огляд займають щось близько години, не більше. Дітям 6 + дуже цікаво. Мої навіть не блимали і не промовили ані слова, поки розповідав екскурсовод. Тож, рекомендую! Особливо в холодні...
