Beautiful chocolate creations, pretty good taste, and good price ranges for tourists.
My wife used to come to this place on a regular basis when studying at University, and she absolutely loves it. However, I have to rate it based on my own experience, and while very good, it’s not perfect.
First, the great. They serve an amazing hot chocolate that is really hot chocolate — not hot cocoa. This can be had as milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate (which I haven’t tried but I think would be a little bit too much), and dark chocolate served with cream.
The coffee, especially the cinnamon coffee, is quite good. The espresso is not, it has that burnt to a cinder flavor that masks lower quality beans such as the use at Starbucks.
The cheesecake is in the traditional eastern European style, that is to say it really tastes like cheese. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I do wish they would give you the option of a milk chocolate or no chocolate coating, because the dark chocolate that use is also typical Eastern European — bitter and somewhat cheap-tasting, very unlike their dark chocolate medallions that come with coffee.
Hot cocoa is perfectly fine but nothing to write home about.
The French toast was very tasty, covered in chopped walnuts and with sides of strawberry sauce and honey.
Finally, a word about their chocolate creations. They’re perfectly lovely, and a good value for tourists. My wife tells me that used to have a much bigger selection of sculptured chocolate creations, such as sculptures of city architecture and symbols. These seem to have been replaced with teddy bears, elephants, cars, and other figures that have no relation to the city itself, which detracts from their value. They still have some pretty paintings made with white chocolate “paint“ on a darker background (milk or dark), and these are definitely worth their somewhat high price.
My wife requests that I recommend upgrading the rickety and dangerous-looking old staircase, but I love it. See attached picture.
Definitely recommended for tourists and...
Read moreCan't speak of the food as I didn't get to taste them. The reason, unfortunately is the poor and hostile attitude from one of the employee, and later from the manager. The reason was a language issue, while ordering we asked the waiter to explain some of the menu in Russian, to which we got a response that there's a law that doesn't allow them to speak Russian. First, that's a lie, second, you should just send someone who knows the language instead of getting into arguments about laws with your clients.
Next, the manager, unfortunately he doubled down on the lie and argued that they have only two language options there, Ukrainian and English. The conversation went on for a few minutes going circles about their refusal to speak Russian, even from the manager going from "I don't know the language" to "I don't really want to speak it" to "I have an accent" to speaking Russian fluently.
It was a bad experience from the start to the end, still, not getting to the conclusion that they should speak Russian(if they know it) when asked by the client.
In conclusion, if you don't know Ukrainian and the only other language and you rely mainly on Russian, you might not...
Read moreSit down but no menu. I tell you that I want a menu, but I never come. I went to the store clerk to ask for the menu, but he said he was in the seat and didn't give me the menu. It took a long time to get the menu. I ordered hot chocolate, but I don't have a saucer. I asked for an account, but it didn't come for 15 minutes. I asked for a lot of payments, but they went to the people who called the clerk later than me. The account finally came from another table. 58UAH →327UAH, but the clerk did not apologize. On the contrary, the clerk does not bring correct accounting for a long time. Finally, I confirmed that I should go home if I can't pay the clerk. I finally paid a cup of hot chocolate for a long time. Another stuff who was watching the conversation started complaining about Chinese. I am not Chinese and my nationality does not matter. Chinese do not discriminate. You should notice that you are acting more foolishly than the complaining Chinese. And you should work quickly. Currently disqualified as a...
