Oodles of butter, an ample amount of dairy, extensive use of wheat flour, and best sweet delicacies of India are some culinary features of Indian State where 5 rivers flow - Punjab. Let it be infamous butter chicken, naan, chaat, chole-bhature, or mithai, Punjab has an abundance of culinary varieties.
Golden Spoon Restaurant holds its roots from Punjab and stationed in Abu Dhabi for 25 years, serves around 184 pure Punjabi Vegetarian dishes. They meet the fundamentals of Punjabi Cuisine. We got an opportunity to taste the food (pre-set menu by the restaurant management) and here is our review:
Punjabi Samosa: Thin cover and soft stuffing are two qualities of authentic Punjabi Samosa. Thin cover, when deep-fried, become crispy and gives the perfect texture to samosa which is balanced by gratifying potato stuffing. This restaurant knows this authenticity of samosa and serves it as it is. Chutneys compliments the Samosas.
Veg Nargasi Kofta curry: Perfectly cooked koftas are curried with creamy tomato & onion gravy. The garam masala was slightly on the higher side but the overall taste was Good.
Chapatis: Restaurant claims that they serve the pure wheat chapatis, we don't doubt their claim, but a bit of attention to kneading the dough with appropriate water ratio could have made chapatis softer.
Fresh Salad: Good one.
Gulab Jamun: The proper porosity of Jamuns allows Chashni (sugar syrup) to enter to the core and makes Gulab Jamun delicious.
They recently renovated their interiors and interiors are decent. This restaurant serves simple and decent Punjabi cuisine and worth visiting when someone wants 'Ghar Ka Khana...
Read moreI’ve always respected and enjoyed Golden Spoon Restaurant, but today’s experience was very very disappointing. The dessert I received was delivered with the aluminum foil torn open. The Deliveroo driver informed me that this is how the restaurant packed it.
When contacted the restaurant, the staff's behavior was very disgraceful. They kept passing the phone around, making me explain the issue repeatedly. Instead of listening or taking responsibility, they blamed the driver and then, unbelievably, said this is how they deliver desserts. I explained to the manager, Mr. Shahil, that there's a big difference between tearing a cover and leaving a holes in it. How can anyone trust open food exposed to unknown conditions, considering how many places the bag might have been?
What crossed the line was when a the manager quoted that I had mental issues for raising concerns. This is not only unprofessional but outright insulting. The staffs clearly lack basic customer service skills and are unfit for the hospitality industry. I seriously question how they were even recruited?
This was my first terrible experience, but it will also be my last. I would give this restaurant ZERO stars and hope the owners take...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant in search of good vegetarian options and were especially eager to try their Chole Bature, which came recommended by a friend.
Here's what we ordered:
Chole Bature – The curry was flavorful, but out of the two bature served, one wasn’t puffy, which was a bit disappointing. Even when we repeated the order, the same issue occurred.
Garlic Naan – It didn’t meet our expectations, especially considering the price. It lacked the buttery texture we were hoping for.
Onion Paratha – Unfortunately, it was quite dry and not enjoyable.
Jalebi – This was the highlight of our meal. Thin, crispy, and perfectly sweet – we really liked it. However, the preparation time was unusually long for each dish, which tested our patience.
Additionally, while the staff did try to assist with parking, we had an uncomfortable experience when they insisted we remove the shoes of our 2-year-old child, citing concerns about the furniture. It felt a bit too strict for such a young kid.
Overall, the experience was just okay. A few good points, but several areas need improvement – both in food consistency and customer service approach, especially toward families with...
