I’ve never in my life written a review, but after the way I was treated here last night, I cannot stay silent. We are regulars at this place, literally every weekend, with the same big group of friends, spending good money here. And yet, the staff decided to treat me like a criminal for simply going to the bathroom upstairs at the main hotel. Their bathrooms are always disgusting – dirty, often with vomit – so like always, I went upstairs to use the hotel one. While our entire group (including my fiancé) was still at the table drinking and about to pay and handle the bill with the group. I left the table to go to the bathroom, I was aggressively stopped by a waitress and the security guard, both insisting that I was “not allowed to leave without paying.” I explained multiple times that I was not leaving — I was going upstairs to the hotel bathroom and coming back and that our group including my fiancé were still seated at the table. Despite this, they raised their voices, repeatedly accusing me of trying to leave without paying, and told me I had to use their bathroom instead. I told them clearly that I would not, as it is consistently unclean, and that no one can force a customer to use a specific bathroom. The situation escalated when the manager came over. Instead of listening or assessing the situation professionally, he immediately joined in raising his voice, ordering me to use their bathroom, and claiming he didn’t “know who I was” — even though our group is here every weekend (and he knows my fiancé specifically by name) It was only after I called over my fiancé and the group (who he clearly recognized) that the manager suddenly backtracked, calling it a “misunderstanding.” At that moment, I even asked my fiancé (before explaining to him what we’re arguing about), in front of everyone, which bathroom I always use when we come here, and without hesitation he confirmed: “the hotel’s bathroom upstairs.” This proves that nothing about my actions was unusual or suspicious. The entire conflict stemmed from the staff’s unprofessional, disrespectful, and confrontational behavior toward a loyal customer including public humiliation, verbal harassment, and false accusations, all of which can constitute verbal abuse and harassment under UAE law. They created a public scene, falsely accused me of trying to leave without paying, and tried to force me to use their unsanitary facilities. Excuse me? Since when can a restaurant force a paying customer to use their dirty facilities? That is beyond unprofessional and disrespectful.
I cannot believe this is how regular customers are treated – shouted at, accused of trying to run out on a bill, and told what bathroom they’re “allowed” to use. Honestly, disgusting behavior that matches their bathrooms. I have never been humiliated like this in my life and for what?? 200dirhams???!! A 200 dirham bill that my fiancé was literally sitting at the table ready to pay and that I was clearly coming back to pay myself. I am a lawyer with a respected reputation, and being treated this way simply because I chose to use a clean bathroom instead of theirs is absolutely unacceptable.
I will not stay silent about this incident. I am prepared to escalate this matter formally.
We’ve been loyal for so long, but after this treatment, I’ll be thinking twice before ever stepping...
Read moreMy recent dining experience at Mc Caffertys was far from satisfactory. Despite the initial anticipation, the overall service and quality of food left much to be desired. I regret to say that I cannot recommend this restaurant based on my encounter.
First and foremost, the wait time was excessively long. My party and I found ourselves waiting for a staggering 45 minutes before our food arrived. Such a delay is highly disappointing and suggests a lack of efficiency in the kitchen and staff.
To make matters worse, when the food finally arrived, the rib eye steak I ordered was served cold, overcooked, and dry. Naturally, I returned it, expecting the staff to rectify the situation promptly. However, even after clearly explaining the issues to the waiter initially, the manager had to intervene and inquire about the problem personally. This lack of communication between the staff members is a clear sign of disorganization within the establishment.
To my surprise, the manager suggested that I change the cooking preference of the steak from medium well to medium, as a solution to prevent it from being dry. This request was perplexing, as I had already specified my preferred cooking temperature to the waiter when placing the order. The fact that this crucial information was not relayed accurately to the kitchen staff highlights a severe lack of attention to detail.
Furthermore, it became apparent that the waitstaff seemed unfamiliar with the menu, further prolonging the time it took to receive our meals. This lack of knowledge reflects poorly on the training and preparation of the restaurant's employees. A competent and well-informed staff is a fundamental requirement for a pleasant dining experience.
Overall, my visit to Mc Caffertys was marred by extensive waiting times, an improperly cooked and served steak, and a lack of understanding and coordination between the staff members.
Considering the poor service and subpar food quality, I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to others. It is my hope that the management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements to prevent other diners from having a similar...
Read moreWe went for Monday big quiz night, the food was as expected but the staff were absolutely miserable. The quiz master did a great job of trying to get everyone involved in the quiz but we were 2 people and there was a table next to us of 12 who were competing as one team in the quiz (hardly fair) plus they used their phones for the answers..it kinda killed the point of the quiz. But the main issue had to be the awful service. I’ve been to McCaffertys at yas many times but the female staff members tonight were absolutely miserable, we were served by an African lady and two Asian ladies and all of them didn’t welcome us, couldn’t crack a smile or make eye contact. They might as well have wore signs saying “don’t speak to me”, I’ve honestly never had such unpleasant depressing service in the 14 years I’ve lived in Abu Dhabi. Management really need to have a word. They slapped down menus, took our order without saying a word and walked away. They then slapped our meals down and walked away. I’m Scottish and Irish bars are some of the best most friendliest bars I’ve ever been too, the staff here honestly need to up their game! I doubt I’ll be the first to notice this decline in service. Let’s hope Irish people don’t visit coz they won’t get the warm welcome they are used too, that’s for sure! I felt depressed leaving due to the staff. So...
