The first time i got introduced to Indonesian Cuisine was through my fellow intern at my hotel internship. I fell in love with the flavors and the fragrance of the food.
I recently tried the food at Betawi Cafe which specializes in this cuisine. I ordered their popular dishes on the server’s recommendations.
Pecel Ayam Special- This was their version of a combo meal with everything in a small cane plate. This cute little basket consisted of a portion of their grilled chicken or fried chicken, sayur asam ( clear soup with greens) , Fried Tofu, Vegetables & steamed Rice. This was served with a spicy Sambal Terasi (Sambal Paste) . I liked the balance of the meal. The chicken was grilled to perfection. Loved the combination of the soup with the sambal terasi. Nasi Goreng - This is their most popular dish. Its the Indonesian version of Fried Rice with with Chicken, Veggies, Fried Egg, Green Salad & Prawn Crackers. This plate of Nasi Goreng was as authentic as it can get and was the hero dish for me. Sate Ayam - This was another popular dish which is generally known as Chicken Satay Sticks served with Peanut Sauce. This was my second favorite dish of the meal because the chicken was marinated and grilled so well that it was melting in my mouth. Their peanut sauce was different than what i have had elsewhere but I liked their version more. Soto Betawi - This was their version of a Laksa with coconut milk base, with shredded cannage, diced beef served with steamed rice , chopped salad and lemon wedges. I enjoyed this dish because it felt soothing on my throat and was packed with flavours. Rujak - This was an Indonesian style fruit salad served with a homemade Spicy Sauce prepared with Peanut Sauce , Chilli & Palm Sugar.
I loved how hospitable the staff was and thats what south east Asia is known for.

🔹Food & Drinks. Obviously it was unusual experience for me. Food & drinks menu looked totally different & quite varied (meat, fish, chicken & seafood). Pictures were extremely useful. If u don’t know the cuisine, it’s very difficult to make a choice. Dish 1. Portion - really big. Soup was sweet & spicy at the same time, made of coconut milk. Served with rice & pickles on the side. Very interesting & appealing combination. Unusual but tasty. Besides extraordinary nourishing. This dish for lunch can be enough up to the end of the day. Dish 2 - fried shrimps. Not small, obviously fresh. Little bit over cooked, oily & salty. After my comment, dish was replaced immediately, but still was too much oily. Of course they have deserts. Most part of them is good for sharing.
🔹Service & Ambience. Staff is friendly, polite, but not much helpful. Management assured me that they will have proper food & service training. Ambience is very nice. Simple, comfortable, homey. Perfect for winter season with their green outdoor terrace with lake view. Venue is good for all types of gatherings.
🔹Music & Entertainment. Not loud background mix music. Place for kids activities available.
🔹Location. JLT. Next to Almas tower & DMCC metro station. Quite easy to...
