We recently went to la coco for our friends surprise engagement party. Beforehand, the girls had all agreed to put money in to pay for our friends brunches which one person collected from everyone.
However, when paying unfortunately my partner who I never told (my fault and silly mistake for not telling him) paid for the engaged couples brunches also (350 aed each) as well as the girl who had collected the money which meant we paid an extra 700 aed, which the staff didn’t even notice or say anything about ?????
Since then, we have constantly been in contact with la coco trying to resolve the issue. This was now 6 weeks ago and nothing has been resolved despite sending them all of our receipts and transaction details proving we had overpaid. They had 12 transactions on their system totalling aed 6100 which was the correct amount for everyone’s brunch however we have full proof of 14 payments totalling aed 6800 and showing the aed 700 over charge of the total brunch amount. For some reason 2 payments weren’t on their system but we have proof we did pay the extra!!!!
After weeks of getting ignored by the team and sending consistent messages and phone calls, I was told “we are only reservations and can’t help”. I was then told finance weren’t in for a week and was ignored and then told that they were then sick for a week…. Constant excuses as they clearly know they are in the wrong. Yes I understand it’s our fault for paying the extra in the first place but I would then never ever expect to not get this money back from a silly mistake and for the venue to even over charge in the first place - especially when we have the receipts to prove it.
We eventually got to their finance on a visit to the venue to be treated like we were stupid and point blank refused our refund. If it had been a small amount fair enough I could accept it but I honestly can’t believe we will not be getting aed 700 back :( I also asked if they could check the cameras so we could show that 14 payments were made as we obviously have exact times of payments on our receipts which was refused, pretty sure cameras are a necessary security feature in such an establishment…
Absolute shocking treatment and from other reviews I can see plenty of other people have been made to feel small and treated badly. It’s a shame as we did have a lovely day and the staff on the day were great but I will definitely now not return and be telling anyone of thinking of going to...
Read moreWe had quite a disappointing experience at La Coco!
We had a table reserved and were running a bit late so my husband called the restaurant at approx 9pm to let them know we were going to be late by about 20 mts for our reservation from 9.30pm. The person on the other end said it was perfectly fine.
We arrived at about 9.50pm and the restaurant was almost empty. The restaurant has a nice ambience and set up.
We ordered cocktails and a starter and this is at about 10pm. The order arrived in about 10 mts and the cocktails were quite nice too. The waiting staff arrived a couple of minutes later and said they had accidentally served us a meat based recipe and they swapped it to vegetarian for us.
We ordered a whole pitcher of a specific cocktail which was also served and at the same time, we asked for the menu card to order dinner. The waiting staff said the kitchen was closed, the restaurant closed at 11pm and they weren't taking any further orders for dinner.
We stopped drinking and left the restaurant without dinner.
I provided some strong feedback on the spot - this is completely unacceptable that they were still serving alcohol when the kitchen was already closed. How do they expect customers to drink without food?
The Restaurant had various opportunities to warn us that the kitchen was closing at a certain time : When my husband called the first time, when we were ordering drinks, starters and then more drinks.
The rule of thumb of hospitality is the restaurant is supposed to warn all customers and ask if they had any further food requests especially if customers who have not ad ordered dinner before the kitchen closes.
The waiting staff offered a compensation and we refused.
Unsure what rule Dubai has for bars and restaurants around serving alcohol when they don't have capacity to offer food along with it...
