The Local House Restaurant in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood is one of those places that grabs your attention right from the entrance. Its traditional architecture, outdoor tables, and camel statue give it a unique charm. As soon as you step inside, you're greeted by beautiful wall paintings of people in Arabic traditional clothes, urging you to snap a photo.
The place opens up after a short corridor into a spacious dining area, built inside a local house. The wooden tables, plates, cutlery, and floor tiles create a simple but attractive environment.
For my meal, I tried chicken liver, camel meat biryani, taboula salad, fresh oven-baked bread, yogurt, and chutney. The presentation was impressive—everything looked fresh and appealing, especially the bread and salad. The biryani came in a nice copper pot, adding an extra touch to the whole experience.
Now, onto the taste. The salad was well seasoned—maybe a touch too salty for some, but I found it just right. The soup complemented the meal well, and the chicken liver had an interesting taste, reminding me of shrimp or seafood. The camel meat was very tender, and the biryani was packed with ingredients like raisins. Despite the interesting mix, the overall taste was a bit subdued—not bad, but nothing mind-blowing either.
When it comes to the quality of ingredients, they certainly don't cut corners. Everything looked and tasted fresh, and you could tell they chose their ingredients carefully.
The staff were terrific. The manager was friendly and chatty, and the servers were very accommodating.
As for the price, it was reasonable—what you'd expect for a meal in this range.
All in all, Local House Restaurant is a good spot for quality, traditional food in a charming environment. While the food isn't necessarily something to rave about, it's a nice experience overall, and I wouldn't...
Read moreDecided to try this place after eating at the Arabian Tea House restaurant next door for four consecutive days in a row (the queue is horrendous at times but it is worth the wait). I had seen this restaurant and noticed that it may be underrated compared to its neighbor. I looked it up on google maps and saw the mixed reviews but I gave it a shot anyways. Like when traveling to any other foreign country you have to ask beforehand if plastic is accepted, I myself have forgotten to ask beforehand and cannot hold the restaurant accountable but a sign placed around the front door would come in handy. I did mention to the restaurant that they should put up a sign telling potential customers that plastic is not accepted or that they should consider accepting it. Now to the food review. We placed an order for a Calamari Appetizer (25Dhs), a Grilled Half-Chicken (65Dhs) and a Camel Sizzling (95Dhs). I was going to go for the Camel burger but gave the Sizzling a try at the waiters recommendation. The Calamari was delicious, it is served with ketchup, mayo and sweet and sour sauce. The Grilled Half-Chicken was delicious and served with your choice of french fries or rice, it also comes with a sauce that really enhances the flavor of the chicken. The Camel Sizzling was good, nothing out of this world. It is served with your choice of french fries or a generous portion of rice with some type of white sauce on the side that has a minty flavor and a salad that is delicious. The white sauce is not something that I found enhanced the flavor of the food but rather took away from it as it was rather bland. Overall it was a good experience. I got speedy and very friendly service. Would not mind eating here again to try the Camel Burger....
Read moreThis place should not be in business.we had guests and we ended up there because the crowd at Arabian tea house was huge. It looked charming on the outside, so we stepped in but no one greeted us. After quite some time, we were then seated on the second floor. A couple of tables had not been cleared, plates of food that were barely touched didn't seem very reassuring and later we understood why. There were hundreds of flies flying around, which was disgusting to say the least. Restaurant staff didnt seem bothered by it. Service is super slow and inefficient, menu layout is useless, it has a format of a newspaper and they allocate most the space to lecture you about healthy eating and they do no bother to detail what's in their food, for instance the Watermelon salad came to our surprise, drizzled with a disgusting pink strawberry syrup! Why???? The order took too long to arrive and my child was getting too impatient because he was hungry, so i decided to go down to the kitchen to ask for my order because our waiter seemed overwhelmed even though he had only 2 tables on the second floor and 2 other tables that remained covered with food for the duration of our visit. The kitchen looked so messy and disgusting, piles of dirty kitchen towels rolled and tucked at the edges of the kithen surface and even on the floor. This was not a kitchen that should serve food to people. When the food came out, the mixed grill and the hummus were not bad but the biryani, has nothing to do with biryani. To top it all, their credit card machine wasnt working so we had walk out to get cash and then back in. It's not worth your money. Such a shame that they are so far from proper standards.of service and...
