It’s always a moment of warm revelation when you learn that a new restaurant has opened which serves food you ate every day while growing up. I am sure everyone can identify with that feeling. So when an article in Gulf News heralded the launch of a new restaurant serving Andhra Bhojanam ( which is a huge platter traditionally a banana leaf with small bowls brimming with lip smacking curries both dry and in a luscious gravy, the lentil soups in multiple varieties, a sweet something, yogurt, condiments, pickles, a magic powder called podi and fragrant clarified butter or ghee) all from this South Indian Cuisine, my husband was super excited.
Opened a few months ago, this place is a pure vegetarian restaurant which has a menu comprising of a nice mix of popular South Indian dishes primarily from Karnataka and Telugu cuisines. While savouring my way through each bowl, letting the flavor bombs slowly soak into my taste buds, I had a long chat with Mr. Santosh Kumar one of the partners from the famed Shri Krishna Bhavan which is a very popular restaurant chain in Bangalore, India and was founded by Mr. Chandrasekhar. Mr. Santosh is an entrepreneur who began his career as a pharmacist before venturing into the restaurant business. He ensures that there is no trace of any chemical in any dish that is served to the diner. So none of the dishes contain anything artificial. Every ingredient is as fresh as can be, the spices used are indigenous of the place and are sourced from there. Even the clarified butter used is of the finest quality brought all the way from Karnataka.
The entire platter was a nice balance of sour, sweet, spice, salt & umami.Honestly I did not find any dish to be fiery and too much for my taste buds. If you are used to Indian curries, you will not find this food too spicy. Since no chemical in any form was present in the dishes, though it was a very filling meal with generous portions of each dish, it did not leave me feeling heavy or lethargic afterwards. Standard of hygiene was good. Ambience was simple and pretty. This is a restaurant which is kids and family friendly. The level of service was very good. If you are not familiar with this cuisine there will be someone eager to walk you through everything that is laid out in front of you. Since the Andhra Bhojanam is an unlimited thali, it is value for money. The general tone of the diners I noticed was happy and many of them appreciated the food while leaving.
Yes I do recommend this restaurant if you are a vegetarian on the look out for vegetarian dishes from different parts of India, if you are one homesick soul craving for food from your native, a tourist wanting to have a slice of India in Dubai or if you are looking for a tasty Indian vegetarian platter on a pocket friendly price.

The service staff's hospitality was very impressive. Mr Dayanand was serving our table & had provided a great service. Truly the entire staff deserve a bonus for their exquisite hospitality services.
Talking about price it is very reasonable & not too expensive. The price to quantity ratio is also excellent as well as the taste & quality was literally worth every fils.
If you are on a budget & want to enjoy a pure veg restaurant then definitely try this wallet-friendly restaurant. Let the food do the talking & rest assured you won't be disappointed & will love to go back every time to eat just that one dish.
Personally, for me, I will always keep coming back for...
Read moreA little South Indian gem in the Karama area. There are so many restaurants in this area and one has to survive this highly competitive market they have to be very good. Shri Krishna Bhavan is one such gem well above others in their genre.
A truly vegetarian restaurant. Their breakfast menu is so awesomely delicious that I overeat whenever I go there. Their condiments are very tasty and really elevate the food ordered. All food is prepared fresh and hot per order with a an authentic taste and flavor.
Their Thalis are not the best but would not disappoint you. Their a la carte menu is mouth watering.
The staff are very courteous and service is fast. The prices are average compared to other restaurants in this genre.
There is a big parking area in front of the restaurant, however, Karama is highly densely populated area with close dwellings and hence it might be tricky to get a parking spot during rush hours.
There is a small wash area and a wash room inside the restaurant which are maintained well and clean. During the pandemic, all social distancing protocols and sanitization practices are being followed.
Their seating is a bit chaotic towards the corners as it is difficult to move around and come out too.
The restaurant is slightly above the pavement area and no facility for a wheel chair access.
One would not regret having a meal there. And would definitely return for more.
A great budget restaurant with good food and good...
