Tangerine puts forth a pretty good effort at serving multinational cuisines - Thai, Singapore, Malaysian, Chinese and Indonesian.
I was happy to see an option for small portions, so that it allows for trying multiple dishes without being stuffed after the first two dishes. I think this is where the trend is heading in terms of the smaller serving sizes so I was pleased to see Tangerine had already incorporated this concept.
I enjoyed their coolers as many of them had lemongrass in them. I am not overly excited about lemongrass but it does add a distinct flavour to the drink which is better than drinking a regular mocktail.
Most of the cuisines served at Tangerine is reliant upon their sauces and marination, I thought most of the flavours were pretty decent. The marinating on the prawn cakes and chicken satay were fragrant enough to enjoy these two dishes, which usually require dipping sauce as most restaurants as they can't marinate properly. I decided to dip some sauce anyways to compliment the marination.
Other highlights were the black pepper squid, kang kong, tom kha kung, beef rendang, char kuey teow. I didn't get a chance to try any Indonesian or Singapore dishes, but I imagine they to taste as they should, given the authenticity I found in the dishes that I did try. I would like to see less fried dishes as these countries do not serve too much of that, yet I found plenty on the menu.
Overall, Tangerine is a great option if you want a restaurant that serves multinational South East...

Tangerine - located inside the Bay Ave mall in Business Bay, Dubai - advertises itself as a Thai and Far Eastern restaurant - serving “the best of Thai, Chinese, Burmese, Singaporean, Indonesian and Malay cuisine.”
Big red flag.
I have learned through experience that places that serve everything generally make everything badly. I avoid such places but tempted fate here and stepped in, only to discover I should have trusted my first instinct.
I have been to this place a few times and tried their Pad Thai, Thai Green Curry, Khao Soi amongst others. The food is ok but unnecessarily creamy and oily, without adding much to the taste. Their Thai Green curry, as an example, was cooked in cream and hence filling but not tasty.
In an area that offers multiple decent eating options (including a fairly decent Thai restaurant) Tangerine is one restaurant worth walking right by.
