Before getting into the details, here’s our must order items at YAVA (at Al Waal 51): Musakhan Pretzel ( meat based) Eggs Menmen (sunny side up eggs, cheese in the middle of Turkish Semit) I’ve got Turkish roots. So I don’t recommend Semit lightly. Fig French toast. Don’t skip the complimentary homemade orange butter spread and spice dips. Passion fruit ice tea.
Well, this was a nice Sunday brunch surprise for me and my family. We just heard about YAVA the night before and decided to check it out without knowing anything much about their cuisine. Then we were greeted with warmth and delicious Mediterranean dishes with a twist.
This place definitely has a family restaurant feel. YAVA’s owner greets us at the entrance and walks us through the story of oranges being the fruit of Rafah, Palestine. He also proudly, and rightfully, showed us his beautifully designed and hand made indoor tables. He told us about his Palestinian/ Algerian heritage, which is certainly reflected in the atmosphere and menu. We also got to meet his beautiful baby daughter. Nice touch pulling on our heartstrings.
We sat down and struggled to decide what to order. Everything looked delicious and everything we ordered was! Whilst there are many Mediterranean-based restaurants, There are few places that serve the quality and unique flavour/ ingredient mix as this. Finally, the indoor and outdoor experiences were equally gratifying.
