Whilst in Bognor Regis for a weekend break had planned on eating at Mamma Mia, but it was unfortunately closed. So changed plans and found the Magna. Arrived just after 5 pm to an empty restaurant. Was shown a table for 2 right by the the bar and kitchen doors. Didn't feel comfortable being surrounded by the staff , drivers and everyone lingering. Was quickly asked if we would like a drink and poppadoms, ordered and they were on the table soon afterwards. The table was way to cramped but that's normal if there's two of you. We ordered the mains then next minute the place is almost full of a group booking for what seemed like a family event. The noise then became is unbearable that you couldn't talk to one another. They were so loud 🔊📢 that it ruined everything. To make matters worse when the mains arrived my Chicken Ceylon was probably the worse tasting Ceylon I've even had. No depth of flavour, no heat , complete lack of sauce a the chicken wasn't the best either. The pilau rice didn't taste great. It seemed as if they were just too busy with delivery orders , then pressure with the huge group booking that that quality just wasn't there. I left most of mine quickly drank the beer and shouted for the bill. I made it fairly obvious I wasn't best pleased. It may be a popular place for the locals in Bognor Regis, but if and when I visit Bognor again I'll be trying elsewhere....
Read moreShockingly slow Saturday night service. We booked a table which hadn't been reserved when we arrived at 730. Place was packed and we were put in overflow room. Poppadoms came quick with menus. Took a long time to take orders. 15-20 minutes. Took over 1 hour 20 mins to get our food. We complained at one hour a d they offered a free round of drinks. All the other 4 tables in the extra room complained too. Free drinks all round. Harrassed staff finally delivered some food. It was barely warm. We had lost the will to complain by then. The only hot items were the rice. And the breads that arrived 5 to 10 minutes after. We has to remind them about the breads. No apology for any delays. Quick to bring desert menu. My friend joked about it coming quick. They said it would be. It didn't. Took 15 minutes. When we finally got our bill the restaurant was empty. They said we couldn't divide the bill into any amounts that were not whole pounds or 50p. When we asked why they said it was less confusing for the accounts. No apology when we left for any of the delays. Very disappointed as I have had several great takeaways from here. No one seemed to wait long for their takeaways in a steady stream. The restaurant clearly was second place. And the extra room third place. Do not go here at...
Read moreI hadn't been in the Magna for about 18 years so I thought it was due a visit.
I opted for the mixed starter..apart from the lamb tikka which was as tough as shoe leather everything was lovely ,I wish Restaurants would stop presenting dishes on those hot sizzling plates all it does is overcook the meats in this case the lamb. I went with the Chicken Achari, the Achari sauce was excellent and the best I have tasted in a long time unfortunately the Chicken Tikka was overcooked and therefore dry and hard to slice,I am not sure if this was due to the dish having been left under a warming light. The Ginger rice was lovely and tasty. The garlic nan was perfect, thin and a hint of crispness on the edge. 25 minutes after taking my mains away we decided to ask for the Bill as we werent offered a dessert menu despite the fact both tables either side of me were offered.
Service could have been a little more attentive as I had to keep asking for a fresh drink and they didnt seem to anticipate my needs as a customer although they did appear to give their regulars plenty of attention, they haven't quite understood that today's new customers are tomorrow's regulars ,the score is based upon the poor service and no I...
