Went for Sunday Lunch Atmosphere very homely and intimate. A lot bigger on the inside than looking through the window. Front of house staff very pleasant, taking coats etc. Now I would have had a starter, but neither of the (only) 2 choices spoke to me. Whilst I understand that on a Sunday, a smaller menu than normal is provided, I would have expected two or three additional options; Smoked Salmon and prawns, pâté Anyway, decided instead to have the bread for two. I must say, very good sourdough. The correct amount of tang, and the perfect fluffy innards. I would have liked a bit more than two pieces - though I suppose it was more appetiser. If I had had a starter, my opinion would be different. The roast was nothing short of incredible in each element, which I will now detail. Roast Pork: A tantalising U shape of pork flesh and fat. Those who like crackling will swoon at the outer ring of crunch and flavour. Some could say it is too fatty, to that I say - order the chicken instead. Silver Dollar Potatoes: Thin layers of starch bliss. These melt in your mouth sudo roasties were incredibly moreish, and surprisingly quite light! This is because they don’t contain a cream element (unlike a fan favourite of mine, the dauphinois) Veg: A tad sparten on veg. I understand it’s for impact but I could have done with more carrots. Cauliflower cheese: Rich cheesey goodness. Tasted just as it should, and free from over cooked blotches some cauliflower cheese gets.Flurettes were perfect bite sized pieces Yorkshire Pudding: Big buttery brown beauty. Extra Gravy: Always appreciated. Overall an excellent experience, and well worth the money. I will be back.

When I saw the photo of this place I already can tell it’s a restaurant of real wholesome cooking, and not those pretentious place with fancy looking dishes with little flavour, but the complete opposite, and I wasn’t wrong. They respected each ingredients and cooked to its perfection, I was lucky to walk by during their famous Sunday roast, ordered the roast pork, it’s was incredible. And I am a ramen chef myself knowing my way around pork and Cha Shu. I was a little afraid of the sauce that it came with that it will overshadow the meat but no, it’s perfectly subtle and delicious, pairs perfectly with the rest of the dish. Same with the sauce for the veggies! Their fried potato, idk how they do the layers, showcase the beautiful complex flavour of the potato itself. And the cauliflower melt in your mouth with not overly rich cream sauce. Everything is cooked spot on. Especially when you consider the amount of pork, beef and chicken they serve, they have to be precooked and ready, and heat up before serving, which can easily make the meat dry, but everything was tender and perfect. This is one of the best cooking I’ve had so far in the UK! Yes it’s €30, but it’s worth every single penny!

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch at The Beckford Canteen. Everything was spot on from start to finish. The roast chicken was perfectly cooked — juicy with crispy skin — and came with all the proper trimmings: rich gravy, seasonal vegetables, and a giant Yorkshire pudding that was light and fluffy inside. The sides were just as good as the main event. The cauliflower cheese was creamy, indulgent, and topped with just the right amount of cheese. The crispy layered potatoes were absolutely addictive — golden on the outside, soft inside, and perfectly seasoned. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, and the staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. It felt like the perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a proper, elevated Sunday roast in Bath.

The roast was nothing short of incredible in each element, which I will now detail.

Terrible service. Young girl called Yaz was lovely, but a more senior waitress was awful. Firstly we were put on a table right by the door even though there were benches available (and we’d booked weeks before - I assume they wanted to fill the window tables to ensure the place looked busy), then we were greeted by an aggressive waitress asking what water we wanted.

The dover sole special (£70) was incredibly undercooked. It did not fall away from the bone, it had to be wrenched away, and was chewy and unpleasant to eat. I did not eat any, my friend who was sharing the dish with me, however ate most of his. When the waitresses took our plates. I mentioned the fish was undercooked. They then all inspected the dish but said nothing more to us. We happily ordered desert then asked for the bill. Nothing had been amended or removed so I raised the point again about the fish being undercooked, to which to rude waitress responded “half of the dish was eaten and our chefs said it had been probed at the right temperature so wasn’t undercooked”. I was quite taken aback by her attitude and said “but it clearly was undercooked” to which she responded “well I suppose we just disagree, I don’t know what you want”. My husband then jumped in and mentioned how nothing had been said to us after the initial complaint and the waitress then went and removed the service charge from our bill… ultimately it was terrible service, good food until the severely undercooked fish (which was 100% undercooked) and we will never be returning, nor recommending the place to our friends… it is a shame as we were really looking...
