Not a great experience. Whilst the rooms are on the cheaper side, this shouldn’t reflect in the standard of customer service. I asked for an earlier check-in at the time of booking, I was advised this couldn’t be guaranteed but they would try to accommodate me. When we did arrive at midday, there was no greeting, no eye contact, we stood at the reception for almost five minutes before we even got an acknowledgment or a hello. When I asked about the earlier check in (I was more than happy to pay for it) - I was told check in any earlier wouldn’t be allowed, only from 3pm as none of the rooms were ready. No explanation why, really unhelpful and not that customer friendly orientated. When we returned at 2:30pm, we asked again and we were then informed the entire hotel was fully booked the night before and not a single room would be available prior to 3pm. (Unclear why this wasn’t mentioned the first time we asked?)
This we found a little surprising given how quiet the hotel appeared to be when we did initially arrive and assuming that the hotel does not have one cleaner for each room, rooms must have been available earlier. This shouldn’t be offered as a service if it’s not something the hotel could at the very least accommodate. If the check out time is at 11am, it doesn’t take four hours to clean one room and not every single person would have a late check out..
When it got to 3pm, I had to queue again and could see multiple people waiting to check in - I honestly felt a little sorry for the reception team, either this appears to be a very unfriendly hotel policy or a lack of common sense. The queue then became quite lengthy and somewhat unsustainable. I was not the only disgruntled customer, even after we checked in, people were still queuing to check in almost an hour later.
It doesn’t help when the majority of staff do not appear to be all that friendly or welcoming. It just left us with a very negative experience from the very beginning - when we did check in, there was no shampoo or shower gel. So when I went downstairs to ask, I saw the ridiculous queue at reception and just went to the shop to buy it myself.
The only person who left a positive experience was Richard, he was great in what was otherwise a very disappointing stay. Eye contact, a welcoming smile - he even helped us with our last minute ice request. A big shout out to him, he’s a credit to you!
I had booked this for my girlfriends birthday present and all in all, was massively let down. When we return to Bath, we won’t be staying here unfortunately. The rooms are on the smaller side, but it didn’t bother us (even if we are both 6ft+!)
Everything else however, was...
Read moreI stayed at the Z Hotel in Bath over the 13-14th July.
Positives: The hotel is very centrally located, and staff are lovely and willing to help. The room has all the amenities that you would need, suitable for a 1 or 2 night stay maximum. I would not recommend it for longer as the rooms are very small. The rooms are very quiet and have black out blinds.
Negatives: The rooms were cleaned to a very poor standard. The first room I was given, was very dirty with stains in the bathroom, marks on the desk, and stains on the bed. Initially, I thought that the surfaces could be stained, but when I tried to wipe it off it came off easily. It became clear that no surfaces had been wiped or disinfected, which was extremely concerning.
Given the poor standard of cleanliness in the room, the Manager moved me to another room. We went there together, and the room was still not cleaned to a good standard, where we found hair on the bed.
Therefore, he moved me to another room. This room was the best out of all three rooms. However, the bed sheets still had marks/specs on them and the floor had not been hoovered or cleaned (specs and hair on the floor as pictured).
At this point, I had wasted so much time going through all of the rooms, and just wanted to be able to get ready before our dinner reservation. After showing images to the Manager, he had the room cleaned while I went out to dinner.
When I came back, the room was cleaned to a better standard. However, after all of my experiences I just felt really uncomfortable staying there, not knowing what the hygiene levels are and also very surprised that a hotel can leave their rooms to this standard of cleanliness.
A small note is that the beds are not very comfortable either, but okay for a one night stay.
The Manager was very helpful in moving my rooms and trying to get it cleaned. I understand that it is a budget hotel, but I paid £140+ for the room, which is not a budget price. For this amount, I would expect the room to be cleaned to a high standard, especially since these prices are comparable to other hotels in Bath where I have had a much better experience.
Overall, I would not recommend Z Hotel and would not stay there again. For the cheap price they offer during the week, it is probably worth it, but for the prices charged over the weekend, there are much better hotels in Bath. I would recommend looking towards Eight, Henrietta House, Student Castle Bath for alternative options that are cleaned to a very high standard in...
Read moreI ve been travelling through England and stayed in 5 different hotels and this one is by far the worst one. Room is tiny, overpriced, as stated by many others here, I stayed 3 nights and had to insist for my room to be cleaned as I had “asked” twice with the “clean my room” sign on the doorknob and it hadn’t been done for 2 days. It wasn’t cleaned anyway, a person only made my bed… What really concerned me was the following: I had an issue on my first night that prevented me from having any sleep. The fire door wasn’t opened as the magnet holding the door opened apparently stopped working, meaning the extremely heavy door kept being slammed opened and shut making the entire room shake followed with a huge bang every 10 minutes. The door was just after the lifts so I’m not exaggerating here and it was just on the outside of the room. I had earplugs in, there was nothing I could do. I asked the night staff to help which they didn’t, I asked to be put in another room to which I was told they were fully booked. It was 2 in the morning by then. At 8 in the morning I went downstairs and explained I hadn’t had any sleep and that I’m on very strong medication for a heart condition and that I absolutely need to sleep or my blood pressure falls severely, I get heart arrhythmia etc. And that I felt very unwell. None of the staff apologized or asked if I was ok NONE, trully shocking. Everyone acted cold and felt like freaking sociopaths. However, suddenly another room was magically available and with the whole process being extremely tensed I was moved to another room where I slept until 1pm basically robbing me from an entire day in Bath. I was not asked how I was any other day, the manager saw me come down hours later and her only words were: “the keycard” she meant the key card to the room I was previously in… awful awful awful staff some people should just never work in hospitality and this hotel is filled with such people. I would like to also just specify that I never raised my voice, or made any sort of drama, I was always calm and polite, and even smiled and said hello to the staff members I saw every day, there was really no reason for them to...
