Madame Pho Ormeau Road — Restaurant in Belfast

To celebrate GCSE results night, as a family we booked a dinner reservation for 8pm. Upon arrival, it was slightly busy but certainly not full or at max capacity. The staff were already dismissive and took a good while to get seated. After browsing the menus a new start (new waiter) took our order and read it back to us; all was well and good. We ordered drinks, starters and mains for four people.

The drinks took between 5-20 mins to be received: two drinks were served around 5 minutes after ordering whilst the other two took a staggering extra 15 minutes and 20 minutes respectively. (We ordered 2 canned drinks and 2 basic mocktails) At this stage the quality of the service was becoming questioned. Then after 30 minutes of waiting for the starters we pulled a waiter over. They said “there was an error with the internet and the order has only now been placed.” Quite frankly being told this, I along with my family were shocked that the food hadn’t even been put through to the kitchen. Then after another 20 minutes (40 minutes after arrival) no food has arrived. We again pull a waiter and question the issue and we were told “they will be a few minutes” they then serve the 4 starters over the course of the next 15 minutes. All arriving at different times. (Not even moderately hot) However, the 4th starter was not served until around 15 minutes after the initial starter was served.

At this stage we finally went and spoke to the manager who tried to reassure to us that it was a mistake by the new start. This excuse was ridiculous as no oversight was given to the new start when taking orders and clarifying that the order was ‘sent’ to the kitchen. The manager offered us “free drinks on the house” but as non of us were drinking we declined and stated we wanted to leave. They then tried to charge us the full £30 bill for the food we ate. We refused and they finally gave us a discount. The service was appalling with the management trying to make excuse after excuse to resolve the overall experience of our dinner.

I will not be returning. This is the single worst experience in a restaurant I’ve been subject to. After working in the hospitality industry for many years I’m flabbergasted at the appalling service of this restaurant. What was meant to be a fun enjoyable night seemingly turned into...

I am extremely disappointed with my recent visit to Madame Pho on Oreamu Road. I ordered the beef short ribs, but it seems they gave the dish to the wrong table and then an older lady, who appeared to be the manager, served it to me from the table beside mine—food that had clearly been used and bitten by another customer. This is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about their food safety and hygiene practices. The situation was so disgusting that I left early with my boyfriend, leaving our food unfinished. I can’t imagine what other lapses in food safety might occur if they are willing to serve food in such a manner.

I honestly don’t understand why Madame Pho has a rating of only 4.4 – it deserves a full 5 stars! This place serves the most authentic, flavorful Pho Bo you can find in Belfast, and for the price, it’s unbeatable. The portions are huge, just like in Vietnam, loaded with fresh ingredients, and served piping hot. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, creating an inviting and cozy atmosphere.
