Purchased 2 wind breakers whilst on holiday today, opened to find both were cheaply made and faulty. 1 pole snapped at a knot in the wood, others were splintered very badly down most of the poles. Material was badly stitched together and was coming apart.
Asked politely for an exchange or refund, both refused. Owner Dave proceeded to leave and came back with 5 old and used poles saying that's all he would offer and that I had to accept it. I had 12 poles so 5 wasn't anywhere near enough anyway! This also wouldn't solve the ripped stitching at the top of the poles.
Other customers were whispering and watching on in shock as he continued to state he knew the law and what he had to offer me regarding faulty goods. I quoted the consumer act of 2015 asking if he was familiar with it to which he nodded and said he was. So I stated he should refund or exchange but he said his offer of 5 old used wooden poles was all he had to do and that I had to accept it. He repeatedly tried to say I had used them "all day" on the beach in wind which is what caused the fault, even though I had only purchased them 2 hours prior to returning. The delay was due to having to pack everything back up a family of 7 and drive back to the shop to report the faults, of which weren't apparent until opening and attempting to use them.
Getting nowhere and with the owner being very sharp and abrupt I chose to leave and take my faulty goods and receipt and report him to trading standards to resolve the matter. It's a shame companies like this have to spoil someones holiday and refuse to uphold customer rights and blatantly say they will lie to trading standards about the solution he offered. I have 2 other witnesses present with me who will vouch for the fact I asked to take a photo of the replacement used poles he offered me and he point blank said no I couldn't. I asked why not if he was in the right and he just said no you're not going to do that. Not accepting this I proceeded to take out my phone and take a picture of them standing behind the counter anyway as evidence so he can't lie.
I will be phoning trading standards and citizens advice tomorrow to get my money back, I am appalled that shop owners treat customers like this today when we have rights. I guess they must all be cheap and faulty and he wants rid of them!!!
REPLY TO YOUR RESPONSE
In reply to your response, I was not aware of the stitching fault until I began to put the poles in, at which the one broke and then I looked at them both closer then packed up and returned them, as you could see they were not all used so your claim I "used them then returned them" is nonsense unless you have proof of seeing this happen? I did not say I had used them I said I went to then 1 pole snapped at a knot in the wood, any amount of wind would not have caused a clean break there whilst being held and it does not excuse the splints down the length of the poles which I did show you. You were never going to exchange or refund it was clear on the day with your attitude, so making false accusations I used them is your way of trying to get out of the responsibility of selling cheaply made items not fit...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI felt I had to write a review after reading a few others. We had the best day here for my partner's birthday. We went out of season so nowhere was open to eat a proper meal for the kids. The staff were so kind and attentive, it was chilly day and we sat outside so I explained that my son has severe autism and is better in open spaces but we were fine outside, they informed me we could sit in a sheltered spacious area that was heated if we wanted but ensured me we were all welcome inside. We ordered for ourselves and two children, there was not much of a wait and the food was beautiful and fresh.. in fact I rarely order salad with a meal out as it's always bad but chanced it and it was beautiful and fresh.. ( ide ate most of the salad when I took the picture so there was a lot more) My children didn't want to eat so they gave us containers to take it with us which we did and they enjoyed it later. Beautiful little gifts in the cafe for the kids and family, asked if they had any Victoria sponge cake on a whim as nowhere was open to buy my partner's favourite, the chef got me some that he'd froze and explained when it would be ready. Both staff I dealt with were so lovely and amazing with my children. We felt very welcomed something that doesn't happen enough for a family with special needs children. Thank you both for making our day so special. Will be...

Visited last year and though the food and service was great, the premises and tableware/Cutlery etc certainly had some hygiene question marks :(
So pleased to see Prior Owners back for this season, with a new menu and partner, but the "old ways" back: the only question now re health is trying not to eat so much of the fabulous new menu that my heart n waistline start to groan!
HRH Buddy-Dog and I mightily impressed with the welcome, the service, and the menu ā£ļø As were my guests over the few days, especially the amazing Gluten free offering one of my junior friends enjoyed : whilst there is no specific "Gluten Free" section on the menu ( yet ?), most things could be offered with Gluten Free alternatives, and they are geared up to cook it all separately too.
This really helps stop people feeling self-conscious or "needy" and going for the easiest options rather than what they want.
The Yorkie Wraps are to die for, my personal favourite is the Pork, Stuffing, and Apple sauce ( complete with some crackling in there!), though I need to try the beef one as a fellow diner was taunting me with the smell of his!. Coffee is smooth and creamy, Toasties come crisp and steaming, Burgers need a construction scaffold to keep em upright lol.
Thanks guys, see you soonest to work my way through the rest...
