Bar Estilo — Restaurant in Birmingham

A friend recommended the Bar Estilo to me for the celebration of two birthdays, mine and another friend's.

The place is nice, the drinks are good and the waiter who served us was lovely! But unfortunately, the manager who was on site (22/10/2022/at 8 pm) was very rude, without any need.

I made a reservation by phone for 12 people and at no time they informed me that to reserve a table there was a minimum amount of consumption.

We arrived at the bar and waited until all our friends arrived to decide what to order, until then, we were ALL consuming beers and drinks.

After an hour and a half we were there the manager approached us and said, "I'm going to need the table, you're not consuming enough and we've already had too much loss, I need you to leave".

Really, where were the soft skills of that man? For someone in a manager position, he could at least change his approach, and be polite AT LEAST.

We weren't making any noise, we weren't bothering anyone. We were just enjoying our reunion and celebrating while drinking.

Since the name of the place is "Bar Estilo", I never imagined that I would be invited to leave for just drinking.

They say Birmingham is the second City after London but tonight it felt like the first city. We decided to dine out in the amazing Mail Box Birmingham, bang in the middle of the city centre. The atmosphere was electric, eclectic, it just felt nice. We all agreed to go to Bar Estilo, tonight for our meal, it was full, every table was taken so I half expected the food to be rushed but honestly it was amazing. I asked around the table and unanimously the feedback was positive.

We all ordered different dishes and so we had a lovely mixture of foods on the table. I ordered the chicken wings, and the duck wraps and garlic prawns. My sister ordered calamari, my brother ordered chicken skewers, calamari octopus, pili pili prawns. My brothers wife ordered a variety of dishes and they were all delicious. Saturday night was buzzing and it just felt nice.

My sister booked another table for next weekend that’s how good it was. The staff were amazing they were attentive and even brought my brother a birthday cake with a candle and sang happy birthday. Came for a Christmas work party and was disappointed by the food. The chicken was tasteless and dry. It came with a mushroom and red wine jus which didn't add much flavour or moisture. The root vegetables were somehow burnt on the outside and hard in the middle. The saddest roast potatoes i've seen in my life. The best part of the plate was a single pig in blanket. The dessert was churros and chocolate sauce. I think the churros were okay because they were hot and served quickly but definitely not freshly made and the chocolate dipping sauce was the cheap ice cream drizzle kind, not actual chocolate. The drinks were overpriced. The watery sangria was disappointing and also flavourless, about £10 for a glass, filled with ice. I did try someone's crab pot and the spicy avocado crema was flavoursome but overall, i'm mad that i paid for food that poor in quality. Other people at my table commented that the lamb tagine was soupy and had an okay flavour but the meat was tough. Another said the salmon was dry but coucous was okay.
