Absolutely disgusted today! A one-off show was advertised “The Enchanted Princess Ball” aimed specifically at young children. Ticket prices were admittedly a little cheaper than usual for the theatre but it was an awful experience! The show was 1-3pm lunchtime, taxi at noon thinking I’d treat myself, daughter, two granddaughters and great granddaughter to a burger, fries etc on arrival, but nothing available except crisps and fruit-shoot drinks. Costumes were good, singing wasn’t brilliant, and despite being dressed as Cinderella, Belle, Elsa etc there, weren’t even any Disney songs. The auditorium was fairly busy, mostly ladies and young girls who would have been there for similar reasons to us, yet an example track was Elton John’s “We’re still standing”, absolutely nothing to do with the supposed theme. We stayed the duration but many started walking out by about 2:30pm. It seems that the show was only put together to fill some seats exploitative of the children being on...

Hard to single any out but pinocchio, gippetto, the black Country blue fairy and the ringmaster all deserve a mention... as do the cat and the Fox. Together with a massively talented ensemble of singers and dancers the kids were thoroughly entertained from 3-9 years old. Fair do's so was I at 52! As ever the theatre is compact, friendly and inviting. Can't give any negatives because there weren't any! A brilliant afternoon in a marvellous theatre (and won't...
Read moreI had never been to the Old Rep theatre in all my 65 years living in Birmingham and it was a different experience. I went in the front door and the member of staff sent me round the back to access the stalls and the bar and I had to walk down the dark and dingy and in my opinion decidedly dangerous (it has a strip club on the corner) Hinckley Street to get into the theatre. Not a nice experience. Once I was in the theatre it was fine but the stage isn't that big and it isn't that big a theatre with stalls and a balcony. The show an "Evening with Martin O'Neill" to promote his new autobiography was excellent as was the interviewer a young journalist. After initial reticence the evening...
