I had my wedding reception in the Champagne Bar here, but I did so against all odds with how poor their communication is; there's only one point of contact for events, so if they're out of office, in a meeting, or just MIA, you can't ask any questions or get anything done.
Then, on the day of the event, the point of contact isn't even present, so you have to hope that they've passed on all of the event details; unfortunately in my case they had not. It would seem that they passed on the seating plan, because everyone was sat at the right table, but for some reason, they'd sat the bride and groom apart as well as some other guests in the wrong places, and had completely forgotten to put out the high chairs from the seating plan for the guests with young children.
They hadn't communicated that the end time was supposed to be 23:00, so the bar staff finished at 21:00 and we were told that we'd have to be out of the room by 22:00 so that cleaning could start.
The bar was supposed to be a cash bar after first drinks were served, with the remaining tab reserved for family only, and we had agreed that once the tab had been spent the bar would change to a cash bar for everyone. We communicated this before and during the event but still none of this happened; not only was the remainder of the tab was used up by anyone, but the bar continued to accrue a tab after the pre-paid tab was spent, leaving us liable for this deficit.
We selected the most expensive private dining menu, and placed our guests' orders 2 weeks in advance as required so that the venue had time to order the food.
However, the venue failed to procure the swordfish in time and neglected to tell me. I only found out because one of the guests that had ordered the swordfish. They instead offered these guests cod, which was from the cheapest menu; perhaps this is why they didn't inform me.
Naan bread was missing from the finger buffet later in the day, which meant that there was nothing to go with the curry that it was supposed to come with so we might as well have not had that either because it meant no one could really eat it.
There was a huge hair in my pulled pork bun.
My dad had a broken chair, we notified the staff and it took an unreasonable amount of time to replace.
The breakfast the following morning was fine, it would have been nice if there was cappuccino or any coffee other than filter coffee on offer, but that's not the end of the world for me. nice views and the food was nice enough. The downside to the nice views was that we were slightly blinded by the sun, but nothing unbearable. I also found it to be too warm in the restaurant at breakfast time, but not extremely so.
Three redeeming factors about the venue which have prevented it from getting one star are
The food from the private dining menu that was actually delivered was actually very nice. One criticism though other than the swordfish not being delivered and being replaced by a cheap fish is that the staff placed the peppercorn sauce nowhere near me and my wife, the only two people on our table having steak, so neither of us realised it was there until we'd already eaten some of our steak (in my case all of my steak)
The bar staff, despite everything else, were polite and friendly.
The views are some of the best available...
Terrible experience at Marco pierre birmingham and turned away.
We were given a gift voucher from a friend for Red letter vouchers. We activated the voucher on 6th April 2025 and booked the sparkling afternoon tea on 7th April 2025. I booked the table in person during my lunchbreak in town to ensure my voucher for the afternoon Tea was done correctly, as I don't trust online bookings. The lady at the desk confirmed everything was done right when i showed her my voucher on my phone and confirmed "yes just show this on the day". We turned up this afternoon in time for our booking at 2.30pm and we're asked to take a seat at the bar while we waited to be seated. At 2.30pm we were called to the restaurants reception desk to scan the voucher but were told we couldn't use that voucher as it was not valid for that experience and incorrectly despite me checking on the 6th April. The marco pierre white birmingham restaurant told us we would have to go online ourselves to a site called ''buy a gift' to get s full refund. We sat in the restaurant to try and do this to chat to the automated robotic online chat system. The online bot did not recognise what we were asking and kept asking me if we want another voucher instead. When I approached the desk again to tell them it didn't work despite them telling us the app would fully refund us, they did not seem to be very flexible in honouring the voucher. The restaurant also mentioned that this has happened to another couple too. They also said the red letter voucher gave us the standard afternoon tea experience even though the voucher clearly stated the sparkling afternoon tea. Instead they told us we'd have to pay the full £49.99 for it and try applying for the refund later, they did not want to deviate from their decision or honour our voucher and thru didnt even offer us to stay or we could pay the £10 difference to go ahead with our planned experience which we were so looking forward to. The restaurant even said they speak to a manager but with no success or positive outcome to keep our custom. Instead they told us we need to rectify the fault that the online system generates for ourselves and turned us away. They took no accountability or responsibility for the error clearly caused by the system error which they said has happened to a few people. I will also be writing a complaint email about this awful experience. We had theatre booked straight after and the whole day was ruined by marco pierre white birmingham not taking any responsibility or helping to resolve this system error. Instead we were made to feel guilty for their system error.
I shall not be recommending marco pierre white birmingham to anyone I know ever.
Please stay away as the staff do not care. I work in hospitality myself and have never treated customers this way and i aim to go out of my way to try and resolve and help customers. Marco pierre white birmingham did no such thing and it's an absolute disgrace. This voucher was given to me for my 50th birthday and...
Read moreTerrible service Booked a birthday meal for a friend with a Groupon voucher: 3 course meal with a glass of prosecco for 2. The booking was for 8pm on Sunday, we arrived at 5 minutes to 8 and after we had to guess that we should carry on walking in the restaurant rather than waiting at the desk in front of the entrance, we reached a queue long of at least 20 guests waiting to be seated. While still in doubt if we was waiting in the right queue because the restaurant operates based on bookings nobody was there to greet or give any kind of information for the new arrivals. Looking at their cancelation/no show policy if you don't show up within 15 minutes from your booking time they will charge the card you used to secure the booking £15 per head. Baring in mind about that, after 30 minutes of waiting in the queue stretching as long as the bar we reached the inside front desk at 8.30. They took the details of our voucher and was seated with a la carte menus. After waiting for 20 minutes to be seen by our waiter, he appeared and after I explained we have a 3 course meal he explained we should of have been given a set menu. Only at 9, a whole hour past my booking time we managed to see our menu. Our first drink that we ordered when we were seated arrived too after we had to chase that up. While ordering we decided to have our starters at the same time as the mains as could see how delayed the whole operation in the restaurant was. We both ordered steaks as main, myself a medium-well done cooked and asked if the waiter I could swap my Béarnaise sauce for peppercorn sauce instead, to which the waiter replied with of course with extra charge. An hour and a half after my booking I managed to receive my main, yet again no sign of my starter. When I sliced into my medium-well done steak it turned up to be red and bloody so I showed the waiter and asked what would they class that as and he replied 'rare', so he took it back to the kitchen. To compensate with all the issues through the night he offered us a free service charge bill, I don't know if he thought we wouldn't realise but our meal was prepaid on the voucher so it would be free of service charge anyway. After we asked for the bill we were shown two full price bills and the waiter asked us to look through them just in case some things we ordered didn't arrive. One of the bills wasn't even for our table altogether and the other one included everything we had but no sign of our voucher, so we had to rectify that too, during which time the waiter was somehow trying to say we don't have one even thought when I offered to show him he just went off. After spending 75% of our visit waiting our bill came back with £3.50 for the peppercorn sauce I swapped, I felt embarrassed by the whole experience and the terrible service was even acknowledged to us by...
