Deli 17 — Restaurant in Birmingham

Went for a birthday meal here and expected to spend quite a bit of money on tapas. Ordered one cheese board and one Meat board for about 19-20£ each expecting that would fill us up. Previously have gone places and got a decent amount of food. when complaining about the amount of food given they told us it was all locally sourced. However, if this is true we would personally want to be educated on where it is sourced and be educated on this, as when going cheddar that was what happened. However, the cheese and meat seemed to be poor quality as seen in picture and was thinly sliced which does not seem to be high quality, seemed more like a processed meat selection. It also did not state this anywhere on menus or walls ect. When we complained they also pushed back saying they understand we are students but we looked at the menu beforehand and was looking at spending about £20 each as was my birthday meal, and that was not the point of why we were upset with our food. Left feeling very underwhelmed and disappointed. Seems a steep price for what you get as no information shared, the board didn’t seem a really quality and you got about 10 slices of meat for £20. We recently visited Tapas Deli and had an incredible experience that we just have to share! Silvia and her team at Tapas Deli truly go above and beyond to provide excellent service and top-notch quality drinks and food. From the moment we walked in, we was greeted with a warm welcome and felt like a valued guest throughout my visit.

My husband visited the place on Saturday evening and was advised by member of staff to make reservation for next morning at 11 am for family brunch. Unfortunately when we arrived next morning the shutters were closed with no light inside and no staff outside. I probably would never be bothered to review the place if the owner of the place just apologised instead of lying about CCTV in response to my husband’s comment. We have the picture taken at 11:13, afterwards we had to hide under canopy of nearby cafe for a few minutes as it was raining and we had 2 very young kids with us. The rule of the business is if you make someone to reserve the table at 11 you MUST make sure you are there (and the table is ready!!!) when they arrive. Even if you were there at 11:05 or 11:15 ( which is a lie) … this would be simply unprofessional. The second comment is that if you messed up don’t try to lie and create a story to justify yourself.
