The pub itself is lovely and in a nice location. However everything else leaves a lot to be desired. I understand there are nationwide food shortages I work for a pub company working within stock so I am fully aware However the experience here was not good. We ordered a chicken wrap, to be told that they had no wraps (something easily bought from local shop) however when we asked if we could have this on a sandwich instead we were told this wasn't possible. So we changed the order and returned to our table. Cutlery and sauces were bought out, a minor thing but1 starter and 4 meals on the ticket, 3 serviettes bought out. Wings came out and then when these were cleared within seconds our mains were bought out. This to me means that these were sat under the hotlights waiting and not made fresh. The carbonara is a tiny portion with no garlic bread on the side, so if you order this make sure you have a starter or order garlic bread. The steak sandwich, was asked for medium and this was closer to well done, again highlighting the fact that these were left under lights. The buttermilk chicken burger was awful! The bun was burnt, the chicken was burnt and was horrifically dry to the point that when you broke it up it pulled off in stringy strips. We finished our food, daughter left over half her burger, there was no check back after food received, we sat for 15 minutes after finished and used the toilets before leaving without plates being cleared or any further contact with staff. The place was steady but certainly not what I would call busy and mainly customers were drinking as opposed to eating so this lack of service is highly unacceptable. Extremely disappointing with such a nice location and a really good menu offering to experience such poor service, or actually lack of any service and disappointing standard of food.

Upon our arrival for lunch, there were three female staff members positioned behind the bar. Despite standing at the bar for approximately five minutes, the staff behind the bar, who were situated less than two meters away, engaged in a casual conversation among themselves and completely disregarded our presence. Bizarre behaviour which left us perplexed. Eventually, we managed to capture the attention of a passing waiter who, regrettably, instructed us to continue waiting for assistance from the bar staff. After some time, we were finally noticed and had the opportunity to place our food order. Unfortunately, we had to endure a considerable wait for our meals, which was very poor quality and tasted awful. Specifically, the bangers and potato mash I ordered was dry and tasteless , I suspect came from a box as it lacked flavour or freshness. Throughout our entire seating, the staff continuously rearranged tables, creating disruptive noises and engaging in loud conversations amongst themselves. It was a complete farce. Overall, this experience was highly disappointing and a waste of both time and money. I cannot in good conscience recommend this pub to others.

Pleasant pub with a welcoming feel, and not too studenty. I was delighted to discover this pub is now dog friendly, as that makes such a difference! The interior is spacious, yet cosy and welcoming with a large selection of draughts and bottles on offer. The menu is standard pub fayre, which is fantastic. However when it came to ordering a roast Sunday dinner, they had run out of meat. We went for an alternative option only to be told they'd also run out of pigs in blankets. I opted for a burger instead, which was pleasant enough, but not quite what I wanted. There is a car park and outdoor seating, and also a covered smoking area. Vaping is permitted outside of the building. Another bonus is that this pub wasn't too student oriented and had a mixture of customers of all ages, which is rare in that part of town.

Went Saturday at 11.25am & ordered full English breakfast £7.99 + £1.99 tea pot so £9.98 in total. At 12.17pm (52 minutes) the food arrived and was, sad to say, absolutely awful. Presented really shoddily, i will let you make up your own mind by attached photo but suffice to say bacon burnt, eggs hacked at & solid yolks, a strange grey hash-brown, toast cold, beans lukewarm, an odd mushroom thing. Sausages were ok.... what a disappointment. Tasted ok'ish but i was so hungry I'd have eaten a horse. If you can't cook a pretty simple fry-up what type of cook/chef/whatever are they employing? I'm not expecting The Highfield quality cooking but this was truly bad.

When I was told I was going to The Country Girl, I thought it was going to be full of cowboys and hicks. Turns out, it’s actually quite a nice pub with lots of room to sit and relax after a long day of revision. We came for a couple pints, and was informed it was Quiz Night so of course we stayed and played. Although we walked home losers, it was still a fun time. The only downside is I asked for a real Coke and they gave me gross Pepsi or fake Coke, not sure what it was but it was nasty :,( Pints were good, nice selection of beers, and ciders.
