El Azteca @ The Loft 1000 Trades — Restaurant in Birmingham

This is the only authentic Mexican in Brum and it does not fail to disappoint! The room they’ve moved to on the top floor is decorated well and is fairly spacious. They opened last month (September 2025). You’ll need to book a table because they’re busy! The waiter, Alex was fantastic. The food was incredible, we had guacamole to start and nachos. The hot sauce is incredible, I’ve not had a sauce that good in a long time. It’s very hot but you can choose your spice level. I am vegetarian and the options were great. For main we had burritos, the special which was birria tacos, and enchiladas. We were so stuffed! But happy. We had the pineapple and mango guava jarritos which were delicious. The chef, Josè came by and was giving a lesson to the table next to us in tequila and I enjoyed listening in. The chef then came to us after our meal to ask about the food since it had quietened down and we had a lovely chat. The waiter, Alex made me laugh so so much when we paid our bill. I had an incredible experience at Al Azteca! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm, inviting, and full of energy. The food was absolutely amazing—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish exceeded expectations and truly captured the authentic taste of Mexico.

What made the evening even more special was the outstanding service. Jose and his team went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and taken care of. Their attentiveness, friendliness, and genuine passion for what they do really stood out.

Fantastic authentic Mexican food and drinks, highly recommend. All the classic dishes you’d expect with a few additional El Azteca specials. Great selection of cocktails to work through as well, with a comprehensive range of margaritas along with other Mexican inspired options!
