Old refurbished pub with stained glass windows and wooden floors but with a modern twist. Located in the Jewellery Quarter just a couple of minutes walk from the train station and a great stopping point. Great selection of drinks and have a huge vodka menu. A board advertises a good number of craft beers and they have a decent range on tap. Cocktail menu is a good size with many using vodka as a base (for those looking to escape gin...). Signature cocktail as part of the Birmingham Cocktail Weekend was a bit sweet but I think that was more because it was midday when starting. Food is based on a American diner style. Really was delicious food but we did leave some as the portions were large and we weren't quite expecting quite that much food and didn't want to start the day off stuffed!

Edit review: have been back and the pub has had a revamp. New cloth on the benches and new chairs. Very impressed they have revamped the place. Guinness is still very good from here. Will give it 4 stars now as I didn't try the food but pub is clean and staff excellent A decent pint of Guinness and ok service let down by sub par food and general cleanliness of the places (see photos). Food was ok nothing great not really worth the price you pay. Was given a dirty knife(see photos) basic requirement would be to at least give clean cutlery. The place needs a serious revamp starting to look run down. Benches got plenty of stains and not been cleaned properly. Would probably not return here however the pint of Guinness was pretty decent so that was a plus.

Absolutely shocking disgusting service ! Upon entering the venue i was greeted rudely by a member of the team a large dark haired very camp (gay) man whom I explained to that I had a voucher for a free Heineken.. I shown him the voucher and he said “we don’t do it here as it’s not on the till “ I tried explaining to him as I have used these before in other establishments that once I swipe the code in your premises then “Heineken” brewery know .. and will credit the venue back .. however again this member of the team did not want to listen and thought he knew it all . He was very unpleasant straight away and stunk of attitude and arrogance.. especially for myself that works within social media and has a very large following !!

I'd never walk through those doors again. Management have zero people skills especially when it comes to investigating their cause for concern without attitude and aggression themselves.. Firstly I was being accused of upsetting a friend I hadn't seen in years. A female staff member said to my female friend (is this guy bothering you very seriously) it highly insulted me and the birthday girl was drunk and unaware but walked off which left me rightly angry and shocked since I was there many hours with her before anyone even arrived being polite and no problems what so ever other than that moment. I leave the premises on my own accord because of this, as I wait a woman comes barging out looking for someone who upset their staff member (obviously new) i spoke up thinking "is this about qhat happened just with me " and she demanded me to back up to the function room being more angry than even necessary if you want to fix a situation... anyway, I went to follow said person and whilst she sped ahead of me speaking rudely about myself with ZERO CONTEXT of the situation I decided to tell her that this aint happening the way she was being. So with this, attitude back at me which rightly so I threw it right back and then another staff member shouting profanity at me too leave if I swore back (so it's fine if they do that but not a customer). I gladly abliged but shockingly all three off them come out doors whilst im waiting for a taxi to go having them screaming more Obscene aggressive words my way. Complete fools. This place is either ran by people with zero people skills or they just like inciting further conflict in hope their locals will take care of it?? Either way, birthday girl went in the next day and they have the audacity to tell her I upset her still and I was all the bad names a person of their vocabulary would have used that I've been informed on now. I wouldn't recommend to a damn person this place... management are Mongols and the prices are out of touch but thats the location for you I suppose...

P.s to respond to your allegations

Getting in the face of a 19 year old girl? Are you sure that's accurate cause thats ridiculous. Go get the cctv and post that to the police because thats an offence... youre using words as stupidly as you did that night. In what world are you imagining i got in anyones face, infact when you Mongols come outdoors you were being pushed back to go back in doors cause of getting in mine... you caused the scene as well as a staff member accusing somebody of causing harm and that within itself caused the damage.

You are mongols, you shown that with how you all handled it.. yet you state what I said makes no sense and I've lost credibility? Okay.... that makes perfect sense to respond with.

I was willing to apologise to the girl until you all became threatening yourselves and the language alone was inciteful. It is not my fault I was taken back by the abrupt stern way she believed I was causing harm taking wrongful action out if no where.. yet im the aggressive person who left due the incident on his own accord? Not forgetting attempting to make good over your lots behaviour and attitude which then deciding not to based on how it was being handled and leaving for a 2nd time to be followed outdoors with abuse... how stupid Yet im the aggressive dilussional intoxicated person you acusse of? Go in those filthy bathrooms and look...

Great pub , food is good , good beer and cocktails was my previous 5* review Went last night after lockdown ! It doesn't seem to have the same atmosphere the last half a dozen times i have been there ! It seems big dark and empty as if someone hasn't paid the light bill ( not due to social distancing) . The social distancing is strange, on every table there is card with 4 step explanation about the process and using a track and trace app . We only washed our hands at the door . Their web site says they are IN the government EAT OUT SYSTEM but after ordering our food we were given the full £53 bill for food ( minus drinks for 4 people) . When we questioned it the staff didn't seem to know anything aboout the scheme and how it worked ! They were polite and friendly about it and knocked £10 off the bill saying something about we didn't spend enough . We aren't skint or after a free meal so we just paid . However we checked at the next pub down the road to confirm the EAT OUT scheme which is' 50% off your meal up to £10 per person with no minimum spend ' . So we should have gotten £26.50 government discount by my calculations ?? Anyway the food was just OK but everybody ate most of it because we hadn't eaten all day due to circumstances . We didn't think much of the beer they only had two ales on ( understandably ) both were a bit flat and tasteless . The waitress was friendly , the staff were friendly there was no row about the EAT OUT scheme ( lifes too short ) so reduced score to 3 * . It's not a great pub which is shame because it was much better...

Danielle and the staff are ever so lovely!

Me and my roommate love coming into the rose villa for a cheeky pint or even a strawberry woo woo after work and uni! It’s so friendly and fun

I think a lot of people forget that the JQ is in a city so therefore you will have to pay city prices for pint. Even though the pub may feel all warm and cozy like a local country side pub it is in the city so a pint is going to cost you £6-7. This isn’t at the fault of the owners. If you want a cheap pint I suggest building a time machine back to the 70s or travel to a small country side pub.

Anyways. The rose villa is always buzzing with lovely stuff and great tunes!

One thing I was say is that I did wait 40 minutes for my food and when I went up to ask where it was it came within seconds but was rather cold. But I think this will be due to it being a busy Saturday and sometimes staff forget. But they where more than apologetic and lovely about it.

In the grand scheme of things it’s worth the money and they host fun nights.

It’s worth the pop in after a long day at work or even a long day of shopping for...
