it was such a relief to see some of the coronavirus lockdown restrictions lifted with pubs and bars being allowed to reopen in time for Euro 2020 (in 2021) and we are lucky enough to have the Merchant close to where me and my partner Nadine live.
Each time we went we are greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of staff, we gave our details of name ,phone number or email address to assist with the governments track and trace system and sanitised our hands, we were seated and ordered our drinks ,these were served in excellent condition, poured in the correct manner even allowing time for the all important settle on my beer or an amazing cocktail prepared and presented elegantly, and we just kicked back, chilled out for an hour or so before the inevitable nerves kicked in for the big game.
I like the look of this bar and the many tv's to enjoy the sport, a cool looking serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this bar and the manager Paul goes out of his way to make sure everyone is ok and comfortable having great friendly banter with ourselves and the rest of the pub.
The food was absolutely amazing, I had a sloopy joe burger which was incredible as an added bonus price was superb,it was just so good being out and about again ,going to nice bars such as The Merchant and socialising again.
We really enjoyed our time in here and have been several times since and every other visit here we have had a great time. The Merchant is easy to locate along Brentwood High Street, a street and area teeming with pubs, bars and restaurants and a major tourist destination due to its TOWIE connection but for me the Merchant is the place to be

Keep up...

Worst quiz in Brentwood. Staff from the pub and next door (mates of the manager) take part and dominate the leaderboard by making use of the point stealing function - very strange concept. There was a 300 point gap after the top 6 teams which were all buddies. Created a horrible atmosphere for everyone else but a laugh for them as people were on minus 2-300 because of this silly function.
Also there was a team of two from these mates who didn’t know what basic words meant but knew all the answers - seems a bit dodgy… I suppose the highest prize in Brentwood is only feasible when your mates win!
Also, very loud and crazy noise during it. You’ll feel like you’ve accidentally popped something.
Definitely avoid at these times, cheap drinks and pretty decent...
