Albatross Cafe - A Disappointing Experience
I recently visited Albatross Cafe and was extremely disappointed with both the food and the service. I ordered the croissant cake, which was noticeably sour and tasted like it was off. When I tried to get the attention of a staff member, I had to search for them, eventually finding a server out the back, sitting on a chair and reading a book. When I brought up the issue with the cake, the server didn't apologise at all. In an attempt to show that I wasn't just a rude, complaining person, I asked him what book he was reading. He simply and rudely replied, "a book." This dismissive attitude was incredibly frustrating. He replaced the cake with a fresher one that was great. To top it all off, the takeaway coffee I ordered was also disgusting and sour, just like the cake. It was so bad that I had to throw it in the bin. My friend's coffee was fine, though way too hot for a flat white. Overall, the food was terrible and the service was rude and unprofessional. I would not recommend...
Read moreLovely setting with lots of plants and nice décor. The coffee is nice, including a cold brew. There is also a hot drink called a Montréal Fog, you can find out what this is for yourself. They offer a range of hot and cold food including an assortment of cakes. In the evenings they are open for cocktails including espresso martinis and negronis. Service is friendly and they don't seem to mind there being children there, though the space isn't really designed for little ones. They sell pottery from Jericho Studios which is really nice - though not cheap - and use this for lots of their service crockery and some of their plant pots. Overall a great place to stop for refreshments on North At, certainly feels like the current trendiest place for coffee in...
Read moreDeleted and reposted my review and is doesn’t represent the cafe as it is now. Used to be my favourite spot on North st, however I recently went back and it’s totally changed. Not sure if new owners, but people I didn’t recognise. They don’t do cooked food anymore which is what made it unique from the other 50 cafes that serve coffee and croissants in the street. The vibe has also gone, it’s dirty, dirty floor and kick boards, hardly any plants left, and got rid of the arty wonky home made mugs they used. Nothing to bring me back here again which is a shame. Was quite sad the rest of the day after visiting recently after a year or so off ‘cafe’ing’...
