I've been going here with my partner since Guild of Dough started baking at this random little spot and their baked goods are brilliant, especially their focaccia and sourdough. The first time we went they even gave my partner a free brownie which was one of the best he has ever had. The only reason I am not giving a 5 star review is because we unfortunately received really rude service this morning, something we never receive from the guys who run the bakery. My partner arrived at the bakery a little early (we're talking 5 minutes) at 9:55am as they were setting up. They already had some bread ready and out of the oven so we asked if we were ok to purchase it and apologised for being early. The young woman who served us could not have been more visibly annoyed, she may as well of held up a sign saying 'GO AWAY YOU PESTS'. The irony is, she offered to serve us and when we asked she begrudgingly advised we could have one of the available loaves (through gritted teeth). When I asked if I could pay with cash, she abruptly remarked 'it's too early, I don't know yet'. with one of those passive aggressive smiles. Sorry, I did not know the time of day dictated whether a customer could pay cash or not. She then made a fuss of going to the money tin before barking 'it appears you can'. She just made us feel so uncomfortable and like we were a problem, which is not right considering we are helping support the business with our custom and have been supporters of Guild of Dough since it's inception. We were just there for a loaf of bloody bread (which was delicious as always btw). The transaction took all of 2 minutes from her day and it was only us there, so I wish her all the very best of luck when she has to serve 5 customers in a row. In summary, great bread, but customer service needs a few more minutes...
Read moreThe sausage rolls these guys make set an unfairly high benchmark by which all other sausage rolls are judged. In a way, it's ruined sausage rolls for me because I've tasted perfection and now everything else seems disappointing in comparison.
I've also bought a mushroom foccacia and ended up eating the entire loaf to myself on the bus ride from Bedminster back to Fishponds. I don't know whether this says more about the quality of the baking or my total lack of self control, but eitherway it's damn tasty stuff.
They also make fantastic pizza dough fresh to order, which takes the hassle out of doing pizzas if you want to make them at home or for a party. They are a friendly bunch and are absolutely worth a visit if you are in the area of Ashley Down/ Bishopston/ St Werburgh's and looking for...
