I didn't want to rate Izakaya five stars, as then everyone will know just how amazing it is! But since we decided to dine there twice on our long weekend in Bristol, it's definitely worthy of the five stars.

First up, the atmosphere is cute and cozy, with Japanese artwork on the walls and a nice breeze coming in from outside - I often get too hot in restaurants so the temperature here was just perfect.

The waiting staff were incredibly sweet and kind and couldn't haven't been more attentive and lovely. We ordered quite a feast with my other half going for a Katsu curry and an oyakodon for myself, alongside a selection of sushi and sides.

Every dish was cooked to perfection, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. It was clear that real love, care and attention to detail goes into all the dishes and even the bowls and plates used were beautiful, which made our meal feel very special.

The oyakodon was sublime! My other half sampled it for the first time and declared it so good, we returned the next night so he could order it for himself in a case of food envy! Everything else was also absolutely delicious. On our second night we tried the croquettes which were deliciously crispy and bursting with juicy shrimp.

We washed everything down with some cold, crispy Hitachino beer which complemented the food beautifully.

I'm sure we will be back to Izakaya on...

I'd wanted to try this place for years and was excited they could fit us in on a busy Saturday evening, so we could take our friend visiting from London out to somewhere nice to eat in Bristol. However, I regret the money we spent here in the end and I'm disappointed this place wasn't anyway near the quality of food I would have expected for the other reviews I'd seen, and how nice it looks from outside.

The Sashimi tasted fishy and not fresh/was mushy, everything with batter was soggy and not with any crispness, plus totally lacking in flavour! I also paid around £3.50 for a glass of hot water with a thin slice of lemon and some honey in on top of the rest of the over priced food. All 3 of us got stuff to share and all 3 of us found the food mushy and bland, we also left hungry and £30 out of pocket each after adding a little extra on top for staff tip; as the service was really good.

I can't belive how much money so little food cost us all and I'm disgusted they charge it for such poor quality. I've had much better Japanese food and Sushi in Bristol, this was some of the worst...

after arriving at the restaurant on time we had to wait a further half n hour out side in the cold before someone came to assets us quite disappointing when we got in we was not seated where i requested but was moved after asking, we ordered our food on their app inside the restaurant but found this to be quite complicated and after several attempts got our order done we waited over an hour for the main to come out which was one main and waited a further half n hour for the second main which was again not good as we wanted to eat together. overall the waiting time between meals is ridiculous i was on the verge of walking out as i was so hungry its very small in there too so if your planning to visit as a group i would not recommend. the prawn curry and rice was terrible just a slob of curry with potatoes and carrots and 4 cheap so called coated prawn things on the side i dont even think they were prawns the only thing i thought was ok was the sushi. I dont think i will be visiting this place in a hurry anytime soon i have been to many Japanese restaurants and this one was the...

“I don’t know why people are complaining about the authenticity, it tastes great!” - my Japanese wife The chicken katsu curry was delicious. Perfect fluffy katsu, and authentic Japanese curry. Salmon sashimi bowl was topped with a generous amount of thickly cut melty salmon. Much more than we expected for the very reasonable price. Gyoza were very juicy. Didn’t taste frozen, and the skin was very soft, so probably freshly made recently. Plus very friendly and fast service from the whole team! It does get crowded, so reservations are strongly advised. My only complaint would be: the waitress asked how I wanted my whiskey, I replied “highball”, and she served me a glass of whiskey neat. The Chita single grain was still delicious, and I enjoyed it as is, so it’s not a real complaint, but… highball is the single most popular way to drink whiskey in Japan, so it would be a good idea to know about it. (It’s a tall glass full of ice, then whiskey, and fill with soda water, if you’re reading this)

5/5 experience everytime we come here. We've been coming here over the years and still have yet to try their Clifton branch but we love this place and think they sell the best Japanese food in Bristol. Their food taste so authentic and are always packed with flavour. I always recommend their okonomiyaki skewers or their tonkotsu udon (I think this has been taken off their main menu now and is now a specialty and comes on the menu every now and then....Izakaya, if you're reading this, please bring it back) and if their tonkotsu udon isnt available, I would get their Tuna Poke which is probably the best tuna poke in Bristol! The restaurant is a bit small and intimate and everytime we walk past, the restaurant always looks so full! - Which is a testimony of how good their food and service is :) So i always recommend booking!
